I have repaired dozens of bad sockets. Most of the time, the spring rusted and broke in half and turned sideways. This caused the center contact to ground to the spring and short to ground. Many times people force the bulb in the socket in the wrong position and it shorts out.

Well I am in the process of pulling the turn signal harness. What a mess! I have rebuilt jet engines with less stuff in them The steering wheel just about has to be removed to get that harness out.

I found some very small nicks in the wiring but it looks to insignificant to be the problem none the less it will be addressed. here are some pictures.

The system is busy and not downloading I will put pics in later.

OK, donnyman , appears that your issue is not in the column wiring. I was sure it would be worth a try. I know your having fun I can tell by the smile on your face !
Anyhow, a question . Does the signal indicator glow when the park lights are on ? A bad bulb filiment; crossed between terminals, or the broken socket spring mentioned in another post; can cause cross feed between the signals and the park lights. When contact is made , the signal circuit tries to flash all the park lights, overloads and blows the fuse. Just a thought. Please continue to keep us posted with your findings.

Donny, Have you tried this option yet? The reason I'm asking is that on my 2000 Winnebago Adventurer every time I would turn on the left turn signal, all the clearence lights would come on. It ended up being a couple of strands of wire shorting from the left turn pin to the clearence light pin in the trailer tow plug receptical on the back of the motorhome. It came that way from the factory. Drove me nuts for months until I figured it out.

Quoting myself because I haven't heard if you have a tow wire outlet. Those things can drive you crazy if a wire is bouncing around loose.

Yes I am having a ball it is a cool 102 degrees here.

Every suggestion made will be investigated, when I reassembled the steering assembly testing showed the hazard fuse blowing, and the left turn still shorted.
It's time to look elsewhere. hang with me if I see any thing it will be posted.

A towing connector is installed and will get a good going over.

Just wondering , when you removed the bulbs (one at a time) did you try the blinker while they were out to see if it still blew the fuse?

I decide to look at the trailer connector nothing physical yet but all the pins are connected to each other.

I will be checking further when it cools down a bit.

I have cut the trailer wiring harness off the unit....No help.

Started checking all the bulbs and found two burned out...No help.

decided to check the front left turn signal bulb (I think) I looked as best I could it's 10pm and the lighting is minimal, but, I removed the bulb and the turn signal worked. so I put the bulb back in and the signal failed. removed the bulb and it still failed but a little differently. I may have stumbled upon my short it's too late for now so it will have to wait till tomorrow. I'm praying on this one.

After and exhausting investigation my system seems to be functional.

I replaced the flashers,one socket,several bulbs, still nothing absolute.

looking at the condition of some components I'm convinced this problem occured before I bought the unit. and was caused over a period of time by moisture in a socket, and bad bulbs on the right side of the flasher circuit.
wearing down the flashers.

the old socket is missing a cover and a cushioning piece of foam, it's history
the new flashers are replaced. both hazard and turn signal flasher, this is no time to be cheap and they sound so much better. check the pictures.

The flashers after looking at the wiring diagrams seemed the only items that could logically malfunction intermittently.
