Lights getting dim on shore power
my lights in my 98 fleetwood american dream and slowly getting dimmer. I am on shore power and the inverter shows float charging?
Can anyone please tell me what I should check. My house batteries are a couple of years old.

Grab your meter and go check the voltage at the batteries. Then check the batteries at the Dc panel. If you suspect the batteries you could disconnect them and see what happens when you just run off the converter. Keep in mind that this may be inconclusive but it works with many converters.
Take pics before you disconnect anything

First make sure the inverter is set to charge.
Then check for an Inverter disconnect switch or a BIG fuse near the batteries. It's not charging your batteries.
Start your engine and see if things brighten up. That will confirm your cables are OK.

Are we talking exterior or interior lights? The inverter shouldn't affect either one.

It would if it's an inverter/charger.
Since the OP states it has an inverter panel that says " Float " it would make sense that is is capable of charging the batteries while on shore power.
Inverter/chargers are very common on high end MHs.

when I start the engine the lights and everything are perfect. If I let the engine run for a while the batteries seem to charge fine

What model inverter do you have ?
Have you looked for a large fuse, disconnect switch or loose cables on the battery ?

Put a meter on the batteries with no charging enabled. Enable charging. You should see about 1 volt increase. If no change, not charging. Troubleshoot whichever charging source is not charging.

When my rig did this, it was the Converter that went bad.

You do not have a converter. You have a Inverter/ charger. It is not a Battery problem. If it were your engine would not charge the batteries and they would not last for a while. Check around the inverter for a loose wire, a thrown breaker, etc. READ your inverter manual and see if there is a reset mode. Your problem is somewhere in the inverter to battery charge system.
