Lock to Heater Door?
I have a 2005 Winnebago Adventurer that I purchased used. The outside door to my water heater compartment has a bracket on both sides of door(they have two long holes on each). This is on the bottom of the door. Their is nothing on the coach to lock this door down. Right now I'm using tape to hold it shut. I contacted Winnebago parts and they have no clue how these brackets work. Help! Help!

Unless someone tells you differently, it sounds like the previous owner had a problem with the original water heater door and cobbled something together to work. On our Sunrise the water heater door, which is inside an outside storage door, has a turn button at the top of the door to keep it closed, and the water heater door is hinged at the bottom, so it swings down to open it and up to close it. The outside storage door is hinged at the top and swings the opposite of the water heater door. The turn button latch can't cost all that much and I'd look into getting one and putting it on.

Should be a pin that it’s hinged on.

Can you snap a quick photo of the two brackets and post it here? I'm curious what you are referring to.

How new is this coach to you. Your profile shows you owning a HR. What model Adventure is it?

This is the type of latch that should hold the interior door in place. Some units use a single latch while others use 2.

They're available at any RV supply store and even at Walmart

I hav lost two water heater doors, on two different rigs. The covers aren’t cheap, but the paint strip match is a real expensive pain. I bought a small padlock, but didn’t like the scratch potential, along with the “ where is the key issue”. I use a clear electrical zip tie, and leave it in a loop about the size of quarter.

Any good RV parts dept has or can easily get those latches. Even my closest CW has them in packs of two.

I'm wasn't sure it was the standard "latch" you were talking about. You described it as a "bracket on both sides" and that's why I asked if you could post a photo. Perhaps all you need is the standard cam lock latch everyone here is pointing out but to me, that's not how you described it so I was a little confused.
If it's just a matter of the standard latch (camlock) yes, you can just buy a replacement that is very inexpensive. All water heater doors that I've had have had only one cam lock.
The thing that confused me is when you said "brackets on both sides" so that's why I didn't think to suggest installing a new cam lock as others have said to do.
Here's a video of the "cam lock" replacement as everyone has pointed out if that's all it is (it's on a trailer but should be similar on a motorhome):
