Looking for an old thread on "Arizona $.18 additional fuel tax for over 26K GVWR

Ladies and Gents,
A very helpful and senior member have PMd and emailed a couple of times regarding this issue but, I'm looking for the original thread regarding the additional $.18 cents Arizona is "supposed" to charge when fueling diesel vehicles with either 3 axle or more or, 26,001 or more, GVWR. I can't quite recall when the thread was active. I'm thinking maybe a year or so ago. I searched many, many pages of search criteria and, came up lame.

In case any of you might be wondering what I'm speaking of, it's kind of a vague subject, sort of, when fueling diesel coaches with those limits or higher in Arizona gas stations with diesel pumps.

Basically, there's a sticker on the diesel pump that states somewhat:'
When fueling a diesel vehicle with 3 axles or more or, over 26,001 lbs. GVWR, there is an additional $.18 per gallon that is to be paid, over the price on the face of the pump. Well, needless to say, it's not enforced, by any stretch of the word.

But, the fact that it's there, on the pump, every time you fill, in Arizona. And, what specifically I'm looking for is, a letter that was written from the ADOT (Arizona Department of Transportation) to this member, regarding the "Exemption" of Motorhomes, from this $.18 extra road tax. So, if any of you have that thread or, can tell me where to look and or how far back, I'd surely appreciate it. Thank you way in advance.

A determination by the AZ Tax folks says that this does not apply to privately owned RV's. I have a copy of this letter and determination in my rig if we ever get called on it, but we never have. If you want a copy, drop me a PM with an email address or phone number and I'll send you a copy. A year or so ago there was an extensive discussion on the forums on this topic, but the bottom line is refueling without the commercial tax charge is OK.
