I currently get 9 to 10 mpg cruising at 65 with the Allison 3000 tranny

9-10mpg is pretty much what you're going to get. You might be able to squeak out another 1/2mpg with some kind of modification, but it wouldn't be cost effective. After 5yrs. full timing I'm happy with my 9mpg. The best I've ever done was 9.75mpg on a 10,000 mile round trip to Alaska.

If I drive 60-65 I average about 8.3 and between 79-75 I get 7.3. Since, we are not retired hammer down, as time is precious.

I drive a 40' DP with the ISL 400 motor. The computer readout is always 1 to 1.5 mph high. I drive about 60 to 62 mph. I need to keep my speed above about 58 mph or the Allison 3000 tranny will shift to 5th gear. You don't notice the downshift unless you glance over at the shifter keypad. On a 55 mph speed highway your mileage will go down. Just something to think about when you are driving slower and think you should be getting better fuel averages. At my speed the rpm is 1300 rpm and my mileage is 7.5 to 8.5 pulling my ram 1500 pickup and 8.5 to 10 not towing. I have seen the evic up to 12.5 mpg. It makes you feel good but it lies. Hand calculation is the only way to check your mileage. My rig loaded weighs 24500 loaded with full tank of fuel, log, and full tank fresh water.

These numbers are from the Freightliner computer.

Absolutely no way. Your computer is lying to you. Either that or you only travel downhill with a tailwind.

Our Mandalay is also 42' and weighs in at 35,000 pounds with the same engine. I keep very accurate records of our trips and fuel use. We get 8 mpg with the coach by itself, 7.5 mpg towing a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Now we are getting some good reports. Someone I know reports that he gets an improvement in mileage by installing the Source Engineering fan blade on his Monaco coach. It takes less horsepower to turn it.

I have a 23,000 lb, 37', class a without a toad, 190 HP Cummins. With over 86,000 miles of travel.

Have kept spreadsheet calculated MPG equal to exactly 10.00 MPG.

Not if you have a diesel gen and diesel AquaHot, then the VMS 400 CL readout is much more accurate.
We weigh 46,700 unloaded and probably 50,000 or so loaded towing a Honda Odyssey (another 4,500#'s). The VMS still shows 7.6 which is what the previous owner's mileage shows. That's about the same mileage as our 34,000# '02 DSDP towing the Ody got over 43,000 miles.

I just returned from a 2500+ mile trip with my 2015 Excursion 35B fully loaded. I averaged 9.9 towing my 2015 Jeep Wrangler. Mountains, flat, city, etc. I set my cruise control at 62 mph on the flatland and I lock out 6th when I came to up or down grades. This trip I was coming from Northern California, we went to Palm Springs, Lake Havasu, Death Valley and Ventura. Then we cruised up the Pacific Coast Highway/101 part of the way home. JH

We drove our new Itasca Solei 36G 340hp DP from Ma to Fort Benning in Ga/Al and we were seeing 10.7-10.9 the whole trip. I used cruise control wherever I could and went 62-65mph pretty much the whole way there and back.

Statically speaking give or take a little, 10% of a given production will give either better or less than the average. So considering that it is possible that some are lucky enough to get some seemingly absurd mileage numbers and some will get some absurdly low numbers. It is just a fact that some moons came together and all of the metallurgy ended up just perfect or other wise and a given engine produces more power and better mileage as a result of less fuel consumption and the next one is the opposite. It just happens...luck of the draw.

I will report on my newly acquired 1999 Safari Panther in a couple of months. Reports are that the Silver Leaf indicates 55-60 mileage is around 12-13 empty, completely empty. I get to pick it up in April and will drive it back to Denver. This was the barn find of the year for me. It has 11,666 on the odometer, stored in the proverbial barn for the last 16 years northern Idaho...a true garage find. I don't care one way or the other it is a C12 in a light weight coach, it will get better than the average when it is all said and done.
