Looking for some Real world MPG

Hello all, looking for some Real world MPG on any class A using a Cummins 6.7 motor. With and without towed.

My MH is a 2008 38ft safari front engine diesel. It's the last of the 5.9 cummins engine so not near as much emission equipment as the 6.7. I get 7.6 mpg towing at 70mph. I'm always towing so I don't have mpg info not towing. I'm sure the 6.7 will be very close to the same.

You didn't mention what length MH you have so that will have an impact on MPG. We have a 2008 34' HR Vacationer with the 6.7L and we get between 8.5 and 10.5 depending upon terrain and wind. The higher MPG is on flat routes. We tow an old VW Beetle (about 1900 pounds) and it doesn't seem to affect MPG either way. I have just had some work done to fix problems with the EGR valve so I am anxious to see if my MPG will be different.

2014 without Jeep 10.4, with jeep 9.5 with jeep and 4 kayaks on top 8.9. mostly flat here and at sea level.


I got 12.6 once 50 mph no wind, no towed.
My jeep scales out at 4900 lbs if it helps usually travel 65-68 on the highway.

Very similar mileage with a 2011 35' Itasca Meridian with the same engine, towing a Honda CR-V. I usually don't drive faster than 62 mph (100 km/h).

Looking for some Real world MPG

I have a 2011 Berkshire 390RB with the 340HP and 2500 Allison trans with DEF and 40'long. We tow a Wrangler Sport two door and our GCVW is just over 33000 depending how much water is on board. I usually travel with full tanks. If I stick to 65 mph I turn 1700 RPM's and get constantly 10 mpg. I don't improve much going slower maybe a 1/2 mpg but any faster and mpg sufferers and will drop to 8-9. At Camp Freightliner Mike suggested 17-1750 RPM and he was correct. That seems to be the sweet spot.

My 6.7 in a 40 foot is right at 7.7 since the day I bought it. Empty tanks, towing, not towing all I get is 7.7. I maintain a speed of 55 MPH. Unless I bump up the speed then the mileage drops down.

Looking for some Real world MPG

I average 8.3 towing and driving 70. I'm 40 ft and a total weight of almost 40k lbs.

I just returned from a trip to South Carolina, over the Smokies pulling a Toyota Prius on a dolly.

I have the Cummins 6.7 360hp with the Allison 3000.

10.1 MPG both there and back 62 ~ 65 MPH.

I get 9.5 to 10.5 mpg towing a Saturn Vue. Wind seems to affect mpg the most. I drive 60 to 65 mph.

From home to Yuma AZ is 1485 miles. I get 9 MPG going down and 8.3 coming back. Where I stay in Yuma the elevation is 200' at home it is 2850'. I think that is why I get better going down then back. Sorry Mine is Gas.

Before owning a class a, or I guess a MH, this was easy to calculate. I had a 1999 SuperDuty, with the old 7.3 diesel, with Banks tuner and exhaust. We towed a 39" Raptor Toy Hauler. Straight foward calculation, all the fuel went toward moving the load. I most often saw in the 11.1 to 11.7 mpg range.

Every year we would make a trip to Penn from S.C. for a family event, and every year on the way North I would get 12.1 to 12.3. On the way home, back in the 11's.

This year (next week) we will make the trip in our Class A for the first time. It will be interesting to compare. However, given the heat these days, we will no doubt run the generator to supplement the dash air. Of course, the genny uses diesel, and is not in the calculation. So I have to make assumptions on what the coach used, versus the genny.

A few weeks ago we went to Myrtle beach. If I assume the genny used .5 gallons and hour, we got 8.5 mpg.

On a 6000 cross country trip in May, I drove 65 and got right at 10 MPG running my ISB Cummins not towing. Our loaded weight is 26000 lbs.
