Looking for the discontinued Ford F53 Air Intake
I have a 2001 Ford F53 chassis class A with the water ingestion issue due to the design of the original air intake. The fix calls for a part that has been discontinued. I thought I would post up here to see if anyone has an extra replacement intake tube (part number below) they might be willing to part with before I go with the PVC U-joint and pipe homemade fix.
The part number I’m looking for is XC309F843AA.
Thanks,
Dave

There are a couple of RV salvage yards that might have what you are looking for. Fairly large one in Missouri and a couple in Arizona. Internet search should pull them up.

I bought a 4 inch diameter, 8ft length section of collapsible field drainage hose. Works great.. The hose is like an accordion, its about 4 ft long when collapsed and stretches out to over 8 ft. Its designed to be buried in the ground and then drain water to a central cistern.. Anyway the hose is perfect for this application. I did a writeup with photos about this on my web site.

..Do NOT use dryer hose, it will collapse..

We built our own using 4 inch PVC pipe and it works perfectly. There are several posts by folks that built their own. A Google search for "ford f53 air intake modification" will bring up some with photos. Chuck

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll need to rig something up if I can't track down the Ford part. Waiter21, have you had any issues with the intake vacuum sucking in water through the hose perforations in wet environments?

No. The small holes allows any water that gets inside to drain out. If you decide to make a "J" tube out of pvc pipe, make sure to drill a couple small holes at the bottom to allow any water to drain.
I had originally planned on making mine out of pvc pipe, but when I seen the field drainage hose, I decide to try it instead. The hose is rigid enough so it will not collapse.

I totally agree! I used aluminum dryer hose for a fresh air tube on my Dakota R/T that I drag race. I pulled it too tight so the ribs weren't providing enough strength. After two disappointingly slow passes I discovered the tube sucked almost flat! So, definitely keep an eye on the hose for signs of collapsing.

Also, your air filter housing looks similar to what I have on my E450 V10. My old 1998 and new 2016 use the same air box. I measured and installed an over sized S&B filter. (As good or better than K&N) I used the "Power stack" option for a cone filtered end opening. This is the one I installed, but don't know if your housing is the same dimensions as mine.
