Loss of power
2002 w22 chasis, 03 Winnie 8.1 L gas engine. Drove 100 miles and service engine light came on and started with a tapping sound. It got worse and started to loose power. Pulled over and sat 10 minutes and then hit the road, but slow go. Made it to daughters house and poured 1/2 gal sea foam thinking bad gas. Drove about 10 miles and up to 60 mph. Back to no power and 10 mph. Made it back to daughter's and parked it. Next morning changed fuel filter and checked codes. P0 131 and 332 were showing, so I cleared them. Checked wires and coil pac for fire with tester and they were firing. Now service light flashs but no codes thrown. Noticed exhuast leak at flange. Catilytic converter temp was: 96° before and after on passenger side and 140° before and 164° after converter. Is exhuast leak affecting o2 sensor therefore making it dump more fuel or less? Going to find flange gasket and change it. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Googling 8.1 and P0332 (Bank 2 knock sensor low input).
Googling 8.1 and P0131 (Bank 1 O2 sensor low voltage).
Some of the smaller chevy motors would throw random codes like this if the throttle body and plenum are dirty. Would also manifest as poor running, stalling at lights, and loss of power. The fix was to take the hose off the front of the throttle body and holding open the butterfly, spray throttle body cleaner around inside the intake (less than 1/4 can was sufficient). Otherwise, the codes are on opposite sides of the motor making them not necessarily related.

Is there black smoke from the exhaust indicating a rich condition. Does the engine idle OK ? Does it run good when first started when cold ? Could be a bad temperature sensor . A bad oxygen sensor or knock sensor should set codes , but not cause severe problems . If the engine knocks , could be something more serious.

First, clean the MAF. Second, wires are a known issue. Did you remove and inspect them. Codes could be set by a dirty MAF. Check the Workhorse chassis forum, lots of information there.

Besides your temperatures of your exhaust it sounds like a clogged catalytic converter. You can always remove the O2 sensor before the cat if you get your power back you know what your cat.

Never had any codes, nor loss of power to the point of 10mph, or the tapping noise. But, i did have the sluggishness and the popping (backfiring i suppose) when accelerating a couple of times. It was spark plug wires/plugs the two times it happened on our 8.1.
As others have said, checking and cleaning the MAF may help.

A knock sensor won't give you white smoke. It will retard the timing if you throw a code.

Check the wiring on the knock sensor. It has been the issue more than once when guys have this code. Also, if you pull the sensor they are very sensitive to installation torque, so make sure you use the correct torque value.

I believe the sensors are their own ground so if one or two are loose it could be a result of an irratic ground and also possible the rattle you hear. Before you dive in, check the tightness of the sensors. Also does a motor as new as a 2002 still have a throttle body?
Good luck and keep us posted

by chance did you check the antifreeze level?
Not trying to jinx you...but that would make the white smoke if something froze / broke / gasket failure.
