Loss of power

traveling the interstate today when suddenly I lost accelerating ability. Exited highway but can only go 10 mph on the flats. Engine starts and runs, but no power. Noticed there is almost no pressure on the turbo gauge. This is a cummings 330 ISC engine. Thoughts?

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

I'm far from being a mechanic so I'm just as lost as you are on that one!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Look at the 3" hoses and pipes the run to the air cooler, in with the radatior.

The turbo charger makes boost and sends it thru the charge air cooler and then back to the engine intake. Most of the plumbing is aluminum but there are rubber hoses connecting them. The can rip or fall off and leak out the boost pressure.

Lack of boost pressure at low power is not an indication that a hose is off but it is worth checking. At low power the turbo does not provide much boost.

With the tranny in neutral can you make the engine rev to 2000 RPMs? If no, you have a throttle pedal or connections problem. If yes, your engine has derated so you need to get to a computer to read the codes but I would think something on the dash would have lit up. Normally a loss of power is a fuel filter issue but a sudden and almost complete loss of power is not fuel filter related...or airfilter. Any additional info would be helpful.

I would disconnect the negative battery cable’s for your engine for several minutes in the hopes of resetting its computer. Good Luck.

In neutral I can rev to 2000 rpm. All gauges are normal with the exception of no reading on turbo. Luckily, Im only 15 miles from Cummings shop and will be getting a tow in a couple of hours. Thanks for your input.

What is the year of your coach. DEF? DPF? If your DPF is clogged it will go into limp mode

No DEF. Cummins service center is unable to find any error codes. They’re road test right now with computer hooked up. They’ve ruled out the obvious air and fuel potential problems. Fingers crossed

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. The problem turns out to be a stuck and damaged exhaust break. It can not be repaired and will be replaced tomorrow. Thanks again for your input.
