Loss of power on first start

97' Beaver Patriot
Cat 330
Allison trans

For the last few days I've been seeing a big power loss when I first start driving. It generally won't go above 5th gear or 45mph. If I pull over, stop, and restart the engine everything goes back to normal.

There is no engine warning, no fault code on the Allison pad. I ran the diagnostic and it checks out fine.

Any clues what's happening?

Could this be a fuel filter or air filter issue?

It's now taking two or three restarts to get normal power and speed.

I'll drive for a mile at 25mph. Pull over. Shut down. Restart etc twice and then the engine will run normally. It'll run several hundred miles normally. But if it get cold it goes back to power loss mode.

Loss of power

I had same problem , sounds like restricted fuel........and it gets worse. In my case it was the lift pump [ Cummins ISL 400 ] it was only at 1.5 lb pressure and they are supposed to be 5lbs. Once pump was replaced unit runs perfect...BIG difference , especially on hills. Although as mentioned it could be many other things , filters etc. Best of luck , it is an aggravating problem.

Thanks! I'm hoping to find a shop to take it to on the road. I'm headed to Billing MT tonight.
