Lost 12V power to motorhome.

I recently cleaned every connection in the battery bay. Every stinkin' one and had to trouble at all.

Today, I decided to check the water in the batteries. I have 3 house and 2 chassis batteries. I disconnected the furthest battery and removed it leaving the original two batteries hooked up. Now I can slide the two remaining batteries closer for ease of filling. After I checked and filled all three batteries and hooked them back up, I have no 12 power in the MH. I have power going into the inverter and all over the place in the battery bay but no power inside for the fridge, furnace, lights, fans.

Is there a sort of a 12 volt "main" fuse or breaker I may have tripped? I m really scratching my head on this one, especially after the battery I disconnected and took out wasn't in there to begin with.

I have power to the chassis sided of the MH.

Thanks for any input,eh?

On the MAIN battery Positive cable going into RV will be an in-line fuse or possibly a DC circuit breaker......usually close to battery

Also IF you have a converter it has 'reverse polarity' fuses (30A/40A) that can blow should cables be hooked up backwards...even for a moment

Problem solved. Start from the beginning. Disconnecting battery cables. Must connect ALL of them back up for the system to work. Thanks to my DW for finding the wayward cable and asking me with a smirk, " Is THIS supposed to be connected up,too?"

Now take pictures and print them out. Put them inside a sheet protector.

Better yet, draw a battery wiring diagram, have it laminated at your closet FedEx office center, Office Depot or the like, and mount it with Velcro on the battery compartment door.

There, it is visible and detachable for you, or a service center tech, to use when replacing or servicing your batteries.

First step with any electronic device. Always make sure it's plugged in.

You will have a hard time living that one down....she has you

Thanks for the update.
Just goes to show---sometimes it the simplest thing

And you are not alone......I get 'checked' routinely

It's not the first time, or the second, for that matter. Usually she waits until I m in a total tizzy and talking thru gritted teeth about packing it up and taking it to a shop before she says those dreaded words.."Mind if I take a look at it?"

Don't you love it when a problem is both self inflicted, and then so nicely pointed out by the DW!

All kidding aside, very easy to have done. And that is why having an active/participating Significant Other is such a benefit. Many a time my DW has been our hero, and I thank and cheer here every time... (Why just last week, we thought we had really blown it and run out of scotch. (Horrifying thought!) About 15 mins goes by, and the DW gets up out of the patio chair says 'I think I just remembered something!', into the coach she goes, and within minutes I hear the clink of ice in a glass, and the beautiful, shapely, great smelling, pleasant to touch ---- glass was put into my hand. (The DW looked pretty dang good too!))

Yep, it takes a team effort to handle RV'ing lifestyle...

Glad yours was a simple one, travel safe,
Smitty

"Is THIS supposed to be connected up, too?

Very funny. My wife often comes up with good ideas when I'm either stuck on something or just working on stuff. She loves learning & helping me wrench on and fix things. Nothing sexier than my wife wearing a pair of tight CG shorts with a tool belt strapped to her side just like you see on the front cover of a tool catalog. Well, sorta. I usually shop for her Christmas presents at Home Depot.
