A large part of the noise comes from the air intake. Just like an air compressor in a garage. It can get very loud. When the intake air is drawn through the wall from the outside it makes a "huge" difference.

I never even thought about insulation and the hot foot. I did think of insulating the doghouse. We hope to get wood flooring put in next summer. I plan to insulate the doghouse before we recover it. I'm not sure if we are stuck with carpet because of the shape or what? Ours latches down with a huge rubber handle on each side.

Well we are back home and DH took the doghouse apart and found that it was not even on properly. He found an Allen key to turn the latch so it would latch and fixed it so it would sit where it should. Now I can't even put any fingers under it at all.

We are still going to insulate it bit I am sure with it in place correctly it will be so much better.

I would drive it a bit before adding any insulation. Both our Adventurers have been cool and quiet when the doghouse is properly in place.

Oh yes Hikerdogs, first will drive to see how good or bad it is before adding insulation.
