Loud Tiffin A/C's

We're at a CG outside of Zion NP right now. A new Tiffin Red pulled in to the site next to us. Shortly thereafter we began hearing a loud annoying hum inside our coach. I walked throughout our coach, trying to isolate the sound. Unable to find it, I walked outside and traced the sound to the Tiffin's A/C units. We've been RVing for over 25 years, and we have never had a neighbor with such a loud and annoying A/C unit. What kind of A/C is Tiffin using on their units? Thank God we are here only one more day...

Craig

The new low profile Coleman air conditioners are very noisy. I don't like them at all.

These are Coleman Mach 8 units and any RV (not just Tiffin) who uses them have noisey units. Coleman has produced new fan blades for the condenser fan that will silence it somewhat.

Now that you know the cause, the next time you encounter these loud units, you can be a good neighbor and let the owner know that a quieter fan is available from the manufacturer (Airexcel) of the unit.

Replaced all three of my original six blade fans with the newer three blade fans. There is a significant difference in outside noise. I believe they cost about $30 for the first blade and $20 for additional blades on the same order.
Do your neighbor a favor and tell him about the replacement blades. He probably doesn't like the noise any better than you do.
BTW: they are super easy to replace. Any one can do it.

Wonderful...so this means all of us will be encountering this more as new RV's hit the road. In this world of noise and emission reduction, you'd think Coleman would do a better job of R&D. I'd be ticked if I had to replace the fans on my brand new A/C units.

Thanks for the feedback.

See Post 8 here:
Coleman A/C fan upgrade - 6 blade to 3 blade

My MacGuiver fix makes it quiet enough to have normal conversation at the side of the coach.

Can't believe they put that noisy unit in a brand new coach. Wow.

Beeeeleeeevvvv it! I could hear mine from 150+' .... Over top of the noise of several other RV air conditioners parked around it.

They are as loud as a Chinook in low hover.
