LP Gas

We all turn off the Refrigerator when we stop for gas, but how many of you go out and also turn off the LP gas tank?

Refrigerator off tank left on is how we always did it. Turning the tank off would be best , but I've not heard of anyone doing that.

What is the reasoning behind shutting off the refrigerator? This is honestly the first I have ever heard of this. The only thing I have ever been taught was to touch something metal after stepping out of the MH to discharge any static electricity prior to fueling, and to not re-enter the MH until completing the fueling.

The LP sparks when it ignites. The fumes at a gas station might be enough to cause an explosion.

Never turn anything off, including the generator. Our refer is on the opposite side of the coach from the gas fill. And I'm a whole lot safer than the clown who is next to me smoking cigarette while gassing up!

If I am buying GAS the pump jockey turns off the tank

If I am buying Gasoline, no need to turn off the tank.

(Propane is a gas at room temp and pressure, Gasoline a liquid).

IN fact, on most RV's less you plan on spraying the side down with raw gasoline there is no danger from teh Fridge being on but the "ALL OFF" button is right there in the steps so why not use it (Battery disconnect).

My LP tank is always shut off while traveling which means it's is off while fueling. We do however have a residential refrigerator......uses no gas, just electricity.

Gasoline fumes are heaver than air so they stay close to the ground. LP fumes are lighter than air so they rise up. I turn off all ignition sources (refrigerator, hot water, etc... ) when getting my LP filled but that's the only time.
