LP Gas

I did when I had a Gasser "C" class because the ignition sources were a lot closer to the fuel fill, but now that we have a pusher I don't. Did you ever try to set a match to Diesel? How about Gas ?

I'm not too worried about it now

P.S. I also don't turn off the LP Gas when driving through tunnels

We run our fridge on the inverter while traveling so the LPG is not a problem when fueling!

I don't bother turning it off while refilling w/gasoline, but I have been asked to turn it off when boarding a ferry and have seen some signs over the years when entering long tunnels.

Just checked the web. Only reviewed Ontario which says all propane appliances must be turned off when refueling vehicle. Did not mention gas or diesel, just said refueling.

I am sure the propane police will not "get" you if you do not follow the rules. Some folks tend to use convenience as a reason not to be as safe as possible and then use anecdotal information to justify their actions. After all the engineers, experts and politicians who make the rules are not very knowledgeable or savvy.

And then cry help me or it's not my fault if things go bad.

Ditto.. No special precautions while fueling, just like a car. Manufacturers recommendations (Winnie), and the LP Gas Association, is to have your LP off when traveling. Just sayin... our hot water is heated by the engine cooling bypass and we manage the Fridge by turning down the thermostat and adding a couple of cold packs to the freezer the night before a move and transferring them to Reefer section when we unhook from shore power. Maybe run the genny during lunch stops or if the RV gets really hot on the road.

I was standing at my gas tank, fueling up 80 gallons of gasoline when I heard a wooshhhhh. I knew right away my water heater just kicked on with open flame to heat the water which is right next to the fill cap. I thought ****....this isn't good. So, I stopped fueling, went inside and turned off the water heater. Possible catastrophe avoided. So I go through a mental check list before grabbing the fuel nozzle. Furnace is always off, until it's needed, but I totally forgot about the water heater, because sometimes hot water is nice while traveling down the road.

I only close the propane tank valves, (I have 2, a vapor and a liquid), if/when I stop for LPG.

If I am buying GAS the pump jockey turns off the tank

If I am buying Gasoline, no need to turn off the tank.

Gasoline fumes are heaver than air so they stay close to the ground. LP fumes are lighter than air so they rise up.

Some LP "pump jockeys" can't be trusted to do anything right.
Most can't manage to fill a RV propane tank to the 80% level.
(Especially those that are 19 years and wanting their shift to end so they can go home).

Back in the day when I was working, a friend was a District Fire Chief. They had a wonderful scenario for training.

A vehicle carrying propane and gasoline in cool weather had tipped over. The driver was pinned in the vehicle, the gas tank was punctured and leaking and the propane tank had disconnected and was leaking. What to do.

One of the trainees said "Give him a cigarette and a match and wish him good luck".

Brian--check your manuals. On our Bounder, when the fridge is set on auto and running on LP, it cuts off for 15 minutes when the ignition is turned off. This is a safety cut-off for fueling.
