Looking to buy first Class A gasser. Is there a published guide as to campground length limits? Don't want to buy a unit and find can't get in grounds.

Don't let campground length limits dictate what you buy. We are 43' long and pull a 26' trailer and have always found a place to spend the night. Many RV parks are catering to longer units and some are building 80' lots for the Big Rigs. Go out and buy the coach that fits your needs and not the limits of a small handful of campgrounds.

I have found some Federal & State campgrounds will have limits @ around 30-32 feet. Not all but they have limits. Private campgrounds are never an issue! I have pulled in to private & then unhooked the tow and go have fun in federal land! Besides most Federal camp are primitive. I like more stuff! Then Good Sam has a multi State guide that list all kinds of things. Length of sites is one of them & it also had State & Federal sites. You can find this at Camping World or on line

you didn't say how long but most printed and online RV park and campground guides will publish the max length of RV tbey can accomodate. pull thru sites tend to be a bit longer than back ins.

No published guide that I ever heard of.
Your use is very vague. If you provide more info on how you intend on using the RV (NP, SP, CP, Private CG, weekend only, part time, full time, budget, etc) you will most likely get some good information from the folks on here.
In general, most of us don't have a problem finding a place to stay. It may not be your first choice or your cheapest choice but almost always have a place to stay. One exception would be not having a reservation for a major holiday like Independence Day and showing up at 7PM at a resort type CG and looking for a 45 ft. premium spot for $15

I know of know accurate published guides, but will say that the shorter you are the more places you will fit. I just returned home a few hours ago from a nearly month long 4200+ mile loop from Louisiana to Wyoming, staying at a variety of campgrounds (National and State Park campgrounds, as well as community parks, forest service camp grounds and a few commercial parks) I have a 28 ft Class A Safari Trek (actual length is just under 31 ft with hitch mount spare tire carrier, or 29'5 inch bumper to bumper). At the 3 campgrounds where I stayed in Yellowstone I was booked into 30 ft spaces, and it was a tight fit in most (this was the largest size spaces that were available when I made my reservations 6 months ago) At one FS first come first serve campground where I stopping going and coming in Wyoming I was lucky to find an empty spot I would fit in, out of the dozen of so sites at this campground, I would estimate less than half were long enough for my motorhome, with maybe 2 or 3 that would fit a 36-38 ft coach.

I have a curiosity question. When towing an enclosed trailer does the cg charge you extra?? I have heard some do.

Well ... it's generally more about total length and number of vehicles. Will you have a 3rd vehicle (outside of trailer)? For instance, if you need to unhook and put the trailer in a storage area, there probably will be an additional charge.

A good guide for large rigs is a publication called. "Big Rigs Best Bets". All of the campgrounds that are recommended have been visited by the author and they even recommend certain sites.

Allstays is the best App for us, we set the App filter(s) to Big Rig friendly and search only the CG that can accommodate us. It's the best $9.99 app!!

Part of the problem here is a classic garbage in / garbage out issue. I stopped by one COE campground a few days ago where the web site detailed description on every site claimed the length was 85 feet. Needless to say this was not true, while I did not get out and measure the sites most appeared to be in the 30-40 ft range. Another issue I ran into on this trip was with trees that have grown up blocking access to sites, my motorhome is relatively short (height) at 11'1" to the top of the air conditioner, and in more than one RV site I had limbs hanging down and touching the roof, in a couple of others there were saplings growing up at the back of back in sites right at the edge of the pavement.

Over 50% of Federal and 48% of State park campground sites are at least 40 feet.
These are results from my study of Federal and State parks in 2013/2014:
