For my own education...

Does the cost of DEF enter into this discussion?

BTW, CountryFit must be putting off road diesel into his tank to pay 22 cents a gallon less than regular gas. In MN diesel is 8 to 9% higher than gas.

Pull a DP radiator $1000 labor.
Replace CAC $2700
Air cleaner every 3 years $100
Service air dryer system $259
Replace batteries 2 start 4 house twice as many
Service Trans every three years even with Transynd(sp) + 2 filters
Service Gen verses gas
Two AC's verses one
And the list goes on at least three time the cost. JMO I do like diesel but the same cost NOT.
Compare in a shop most people with RV's only do minimal maintenance themselves, the shops do most of the servicing and after Waranty there's a big difference.

We just finished a 5 week trip south through 7 states and Diesel was anywhere from 5 to 40 cents cheaper depending on where we were at.

It was NOT off road diesel.

I dont have DEF but I doubt that the cost of a few gallons of it over the course of 300 gallons of diesel will make any difference.

The cost of a latte a day, now that adds up!

I have not seen diesel cheaper than gas in any travels the last few years in west and southwest. I guess I'm traveling in the wrong areas. Btw prices seemed to have jumped greatly last couple of weeks.

How could you ever spend $12,000 / year on maintenance?

However , I don't see myself running either one much past 100k miles, so not sure that's s factor.

If you buy a 15-YO gasser, in 100K miles you will likely own at least 2, vs 1 DP.
Not dropping the big $ bite of depreciation due to trading a gasser or two more than evens the playing field. Don't ask me how I know this!
BTW, do NOT ever drive a 42 with tag axle like mine. Your decision will come to you in just one test drive.
