MCD Automatic Shades

We have MCD automatic window shades on the front of our MH.

The day shade stopped working - would only go up. Tested the switch, okay, power to shade - okay. Shade would make a noise when trying to make it go down, so control voltage was getting to the shade - but motor would not go down.

All forums pointed at the motor needing a replacement - bummer, ANOTHER $100...

DW said we'll just use the night shade and live with it... (it's a dual shade set up)

Weeks late - I'm thinking (I'm an engineer and nothing EVER seems to turn off in my head) about the shade. I knew they were programmable to set the upper and lower limit (plus ignition "on" upper and lower limits). So, it had to have some kind of memory... And, we had had some trouble with our batteries/generator when boondocking some time back...and, what if... WHAT IF it simply forgot its programming because of a power dip? (Much like an alarm clock that gets unplugged.)

Okay - longish story shortened up - YUP it was the programming that had been forgotten.

After programming (about ten times 'cause I kept forgetting to release the learn switch at the right time -> dunderhead) - it works like a champ!

So - gang - this is simply a post to help a couple of you from having to change a motor - I do hope someone will be saved!

And, forgive me if this has been posted a million times.

"Domo".....over the years, I've found that the front shades lost their memory on a few occasions. Just to be prepared, I printed out the MCD procedure and I keep it in the seatback. It's obviously not a hard procedure, but just has that darn sequence you need to follow.

Like Don, I keep a copy of the procedure in the coach. I've had it happen a few times.
