Happy Thanksgiving to you all--We are in the process of purchasing a 2004 Fleetwood Providence. I found out that our insurance provider USAA does not write on RVs but refers its customers to Progressive. Who are the good RV insurers? Anyone use Good Sam? Good experience? Thanks

We're insured with Good Sam's GMAC RV Insurance. No claims yet...thank goodness, so I cannot give them a referral.

I was also referred to Progressive by USAA. Had them for a year and dropped them and went with State Farm...better price, better service...look around there are lots of companies out there.

I've had Progressive for six years now and have been pretty happy with them, except for the rates going up every year.

I've just had the "opportunity" to use their claims process too... after scraping the side of my coach along a concrete guard rail.

The coach is supposed to be done tomorrow but so far it's been very painless.

We have USAA on everything else, but went with Gilbert RV Insurance because they had purchase price protection. One claim for a windshield which went fine.

if you go through usaa to get progressive you will most likely get better deal... bluesky does rv insurance and can get agreeded value ins. i'm sure there are many more out there ...happy huting! mike

I had a similar experience...USAA partnered wit Progressive. I took the first year without much research.
The second year, I decided to go shopping...and I contacted almost evey company that would give me a quote. Well, Progressive/USAA was still the best price for full coverage.

So, like the post above, I recommend shopping around because it seems that it is different for most individuals

Shop around or get a RV specialist agent like Gilbert or Miller to do the shopping for you. Rates can vary tremendously, so you can't go by what others paid or whom they go a deal from.

Any of the major insurers who offer an RV-specific policy should be fine as far as quality is concerned. I've use National Interstate for several years and had The Hartford before that.

You need to make some decisions about what types of coverage you want, cause what they offer may be more - or less - than you actually need. Think about limits of liability, collision deductible, glass coverages, personal property loss coverage, other-than- collision losses and liability, etc. A motorhome is both a vehicle and a house, so need multiple types of coverages. Also, if you have a home owner policy already, you probably have insurance that covers some of the RVing needs, e.g. some personal property losses away from home and liability for injury to guests or their property.
