Hi:

It is just about time to renew my insurance on the MH. I am being "innundated" with offers for quotes. I am interested in more than just how big the premium is. So, if anybody has insights into good/bad insurers I would appreciate your input.

I searced the forums and found some really old (2001) discussions. That is "ancient history" in this modern internet era I am looking at GMAC direct, Good Sam (GMAC Also), Progressive, and State Farm (my current homeowners and car insurer).

Did anyone have a really good or bad experience?

Anyone else I should look at?

Thanks in advance

I cant say I have had any stories good or bad,
as I try to keep a low profile and only use
them for a catastrophic claim!!!I do have like
a $500 deduct, and will look at increasing that
next time..

Just left GMAC after 5yrs. left Progressive yrs.
ago because of the LEFT leaninng of the owner.

I saved like $800 by combining ALL auto and home
owners with AARP/HARTFORD. Had to go to GEICO
for the Harley tho. and that was about a $40
increase.

You OR your wife have to be a card carrying
member of AARP to get the insurance,AARP/HARTFORD.

We used AARP/Hartford for several years and the RV-specific policy and price were excellent. Switched companies when we bought a new coach because Hartford did not offer a full replacement value option at that time (2002).

We changed to an RV policy purchased through Explorer RV, a company owned agency for National Interstate. Have stayed with them since.

Caveat: have not had to file a claim (except for glass repair) with either of them. Glass repair claim (two of them) against Hartford were handled promptly and completely satisfactory, but they were windshield claims and there is no debating windshield damage under Florida insurance regulations. Other states may differ.

The only real problem I ever had was not the insurance company's fault but partly mine and the agent who handled the renew. I would double check the policy when you get it and make sure that you are getting what you wanted or needed. I made that mistake and it cost me, so thats whats happens when you don't read the fine print!
Good luck with your search! Capt.Dan

Had a recent claim for side wall damage from getting too close to an overhanging roof on a building. AARP/Hartford was really easy to work with and help full in recommending a place to do the repairs and follow ups. Including sending me a letter forgiving this incident regarding any premium increase.

When we got our current rig, we checked with several and still got the best price from our State Farm agent. We have our cars, boat, house, umbrella liability and now the motorhome policy with State Farm.

We've never had a problem with State Farm and I've been with them so long we now have 'accident forgiveness.' State Farm does not offer some of the special coverages for RV's (like full replacement coverage) but our rig was 3 yrs. old when we got it. We have $1000 deductible.

If I was to ever purchase a new rig, I might consider one of the RV-specific policies.
