Not sure why everyone is automatically assuming that it is illegal. It's pretty simple to get a permit through the ATF so you can run your own still for personal consumption. SELLING the shine is entirely a different matter. Still (no pun intended!) can be done, and legally, but more hoops to jump through . . .

Not exactly according to this https://www.clawhammersupply.com/blo...oonshine-legal

Also see https://www.hobbydistillersassociati...-laws-by-state

For the government version of this see ttb.gov

If I have bad information here can you post a link to how one gets this permit?

A couple of glasses of that and you really won't care!!

I checked into making moonshine for a living a couple of years ago. You can do it, but you will need a permanent location and a permit. You can make small amounts for personal consumption without a permit, but you are limited to a few gallons per year. Putting one in an RV and crossing state lines is a felony. There are two ways to go, make moonshine and make ethanol for fuel. If you make ethanol for fuel, you must denature it immediately (add a poison like gasoline).

I could post a copy of my ATF permit, but that's not really something I want to share on the internet. Things may have changed since I got mine, so I can't tell anyone how to do it nowadays. I got mine over 20 years ago, annual report stating how you distilled, and that's about it. My reports for many years state zero, don't even have the still any more, but I file the reports just so I keep the permit active if I want to do it again.

Oh, forgot to mention, mine has a physical address, NOT mobile. I don't know a thing about doing it mobile, and never stated I did!

Thanks for all the view points. Seems like regulating just ruined all the fun right outta another thing like fishing, hunting and skinny dipping.
Just the cost of equipment makes it a deal killer for us. Two more drinks and I know I will forget what I was thinking about anyway.
Bottoms up!
