So I contact the Mass registry and this is their response:
“We do not issue temporary registration in Massachusetts. In order to drive the motorhome it needs to be titled and registered or you can have it delivered to you on a flat-bed truck.”
Anyone have a recommendation for me or been in a similar situation? I was really looking forward to driving this thing home myself.
Thanks,

We purchased our MH in Iowa. Bought a temporary permit from there. Cost 25 and was good for one month. Got home and there was no issue with getting it registered.

I purchased our Palazzo DP in Texas. They provided a 60 DAY temporary tag, after providing ProofOfInsurance. They forwarded my home state of GA a one-time TAVT 6.75% Registration Fee on my behalf.
I rode around for 55 days with the temp tag until I could make it back to GA to finally pick up my Permanent Tag.
GA also no longer charges an annual advalorum vehicle tax.

Bought a used MH in Arizona. They gave us a 90 day DOT registration that allows you to drive it home. However, Arizona is a title holding state and they send the title showing a lien to the lien holder. You then have to contact the lien holder to get them to contact Arizona for a hardcopy title, not electronic version. The lien holder then sends it to your tag office so you can tag it.
I know you said MA but don't know if they are a title holding state also.

I am pretty sure all you have to do is call your ins agent and tell them what you are doing and give them the VIN of your new motorhome they will insure it with no issues.

I just went through a similar process, however mine was bought in Tennessee and registered in California.
1) provide the VIN # to your insurance company and tell them the date you want the policy to be effective (when you pick it up)
2) I would definitely not pay for the m/h (other than a deposit) until I had a chance to do the walk thru (good dealers would not expect you to pay ahead of time)
3) the selling dealer will provide you with a temporary trip permit which avoids him collecting any sales tax (Mass will handle that!)This is a common practice in the industry.
4) In Calif. the DMV must visually inspect the m/h to make sure the VIN # matches that on the MSO. Additionally, in Calif they must also see the plate on the engine that specifically identifies the engine as meeting US AND Cal emissions
States have different rules so I can only speak to Calif. If I were to register (and pay sales tax) in a different state, then I would have to wait until the m/h had 7500 miles on it to register it in Cal as a used vehicle.

Now the insurance company tells me they can't insure my new motorhome and it's illegal to have the Indiana temporary plates in Massachusetts. They're telling me I'll get pulled over if I do... What a stupid catch 22 situation if I've every seen one!! So now I have to purchase the new Motorhome and register it without doing the PDI.

The legality of out of state temp tags that the insurance representative stated is not quite the whole truth. You are allowed time to transfer the registration once you return home just make a bee line to where ever you plan to keep the coach with the next stop being the DVM. As long as you have a bill of sale that is only a few days old you'll be fine. Just no joy riding until you have proper tags on the rig. I drove thru three states with a dealers logo where the plate should have been.
Regarding insurance, why won't they cover they coach? Is it they don't insure RVs which was my problem? I think it might be time to shop new coverage. They are suppose to provide solutions not make more problems.

Most RV dealerships will not give you the keys, unless you have insurance in place before you drive off the lot.
I have purchased all of my motorhomes out of state, and returned back home to California. The dealership in the state where you purchase issues you a valid registration. You then re-register in your home state before the expiration date. Simple.
As mentioned above, the insurance company only needs the VIN number of your potential new motorhome, and the date that you want the policy in effect. Even if you refuse to take the coach, (obviously call and cancel ASAP), as a result of your delivery walkthrough, you would still be insured!
I have driven across the country three times with dealer logo placards in the plate frame. I have been followed and paced by State Troopers and Highway Patrol for miles, (especially through Texas), but never stopped.

When I bought a Motorhome in Ohio, they put a temp paper plate on it so I could bring it home to Michigan. Then I went to Michigan Sec of State and registered it and paid Michigan sales tax. Your dealer should be able to give you a temp plate to get it home.

This is EXACTLY how it worked for my last MH, purchased in PA and registered in NJ a few days later.
This is also how I'm doing it with the new Ventana next week. Purchased in NY, will be registered in NJ.
Dealer provides a temp (usually 30 day) paper plate. You call your insurance company and give them the VIN of the new one. Drive home. Go to home DMV with bill of sale, proof of insurance, pay home state taxes and registration fees. That's it. Very simple, it's done a million times a day all over the country, especially with MH's.

Thanks everyone! I just called another Insurance company and they did exactly what everyone here is telling me, so I bought it through them. Now for the older insurance company I'm going to switch all my cars and home insurance to someone else. Total cost for the insurance on the MH was $1180... hope that's not too bad
Thanks again,
Moon

Most insurance co's (and I thought it was the law) give you 30 days to notify them if you get a new rig. But, we couldn't get the financing till we had an insurance binder with the bank as owner. Had to make a three way phone call to get it straightened out and pay the difference over the phone at that time.

Moonless's story of the RMV and Mass vehicle insurance is just 1 item on the long list of reason's we are no longer Mass residents. The whole state is infused with this notion that they have to control the bejeezus out of you at every turn, and every state department is set up primarily as an employment agency for the incompetent relatives of state legislators. Frustrating place to live.
