Motorhome shake at speeds of 60 mph.

I have a 35' 2003 Allegro motorhome sitting on a workhorse chassis. I purchased it second hand. When I hit speeds of 60-65 the coach shakes and I can feel it in the sterring wheel. It rides smooth at 55 and around 70mph it smooths out. I have replaced all six tires and they all balanced, taking only minimum weights. I had the drive shafts checked and balanced. The ball joints and steering has been checked by a mechanic. Someone told me it could be a bent axle. With out going to another mechanic, is there a way to determine if the axle or axle plate is bent? It's driving me crazy since I normally drive around 60mph. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Did it do it before you replaced the tires? I had a similar problem and it was that a tire was actually out of round. Breaking the tire down and turning it on the rim then re-seating it solved my problem

Could be an alignment problem or a balance issue. You said steering was 'checked.' Did they check alignment? Look at front tires for wear pattern. Have co pilot look out the window at each front wheel as you drive to look for wheel hop. Easiest way to diagnose drive shaft would be to lift rear end and spin wheels. I doubt if it is a drive shaft because the steering wheel is where the shake is.

I had a ply separation in an inside rear that wagged the dog and made the steering wheel shake.

Neighboring camper had same symptoms but his was a bent wheel.

Sorry, but bad front end alignment does not cause tire shake.

Could be several things. Alignment is not one of them. Try to isolate the vibration. after you power through to 70, put the coach in nuetral and let it coast back down. If it vibrates still, you have removed the drive line from the cause and more than likely it is tire related. Loose wheel nuts ? balance ? tire separation. A rule of thumb is if you feel the vibration in the seat it is back tires in the steering wheel, front related.

Something to think about. 60-65 is not the vibration speed for those big wheels if it is tire balance. 60-65 is where car tires shake due to imbalance but the larger motorhome wheels shake at a lower speed due to imbalance.

Hey Mike Canter, I thought tire shake was a result of to much traction versus horsepower

Pull your wheel covers off the front and check it.

You didn't mention what brand tires you have. I bought a new set of Goodyear. I had the same problem. Two of them were out of round. They were cut back to round. Vibration gone.

I suspect your wheels are balanced when off the motorhome, but when bolted back to the brake drum the entire rotating mass is still out of balance.

Find a truck alignment place that can spin balance the front tires while still on the motorhome. Have them check for out of round condition also. I think this may solve your problem.

Had similar experience - Good years 2 1/2 years old when I bought the MH had issue vibration at higher speeds but shake between 40-45, was a combination of bent wheel, which was responsible for lower speed shake and out of round tire was higher speed issue, wheel removed and tire trued fixed it all
