Motorhome Steps

Step Problem HELP

1999 Southwind 35s...Went on a trip to the beach this weekend, steps were working fine when we left home. Get to the beach and they won't stay extended out. Open door they extend, close door they retract. Flip switch, doesn't make a difference.
Checked switch, seemed fine. All of a sudden they stopped moving at all (made me think they had somehow reset and were back to working properly). Get ready to leave the beach and BAMMM. They won't retract at all. Had to pull the locking pin and tie them up. When i get home, check for power, had power TILL a fuse blew in the front Battery Control Center. Replaced fuse and still no power. Anyone had this trouble. I'm sure many will suggest replacing the motor but i'm thinking more so the control board. Any Help..

I had problems twice with our Kwickee steps. The first time it was a bad controller board and the steps would not retract.

The next time, the little magnet connector at the door went bad and it would not extend reliably. After a lot of trouble shooting, I found that If you tapped the magnet connector it would extend properly.

There are many places it can go bad, as you already know. I think a reliable manual solution would be much better than these electric steps.

Best of luck in finding the problem and fixing your steps,
Al

X2 on magnet sensor. Once I drove to the hardware store with the steps out because I had removed the screen door which had the magnet attached to it. I had to buy a magnet to get home...

I'll assume your steps are Kwikee and there are three fuses in the system .

This file may help.
