Moving a broken down DP

In the event of a breakdown, what's the proper method of moving a Class A DP. Can the Alison Tranny handle towing in neutral? Is there a problem with air brakes locking up if no air pressure? Does it have to be trailered?

The wrecker will connect a hose to the RV's air system to release the brakes & also remove the drive shaft. Some show up with a low boy trailer & put the RV on the trailer.

There is also a way to manually back off the spring brakes if the air system is heavy damaged.

Some tow operators pull the axle shafts, rather then the drive shaft.

The very FIRST thing you should do is to sign up with Coach-Net Emergency Roadside Services. Purchase a plan that suits your RV lifestyle and needs in case you do breakdown while on the road.

I chose the 3 year Premier level for my purposes.

Next, each manufacture brand and model have specific requirements when moving a disabled class A DP coach. Talk to your coaches manufacture as to what they are.

I have had two incidents where my coach needed to be moved to a repair facility.

Read about them here:

It was photoshoped, but it's good for a laugh. Having a DP behind a tow truck is not a pleasant experience.

Thinking about the cost per mile for a tow on a DP would give me the shivers. ;-)

Covered under Roadside Assistance on full timer policy for up to 100 miles... But get it to the right place the first time... they pay only once...

Sorry about your trouble but wanted to mention I love your GFR reference in your signature. You should add to the picture "and I'm feeling mighty sick"

I remember back in 2005, my Alisson key pad burned out and I had to get my dp towed from Moab, UT to Grand Junction, CO, just over 115 milles one way and it cost me over $850.; the mechanic disconnected the driveshaft to tow it.

I've had to have my coach towed twice. Both times I used my State Farm insurance to reimburse me the total cost of the tow. Nice.

Just make sure when you call for a tow, you tell them it is a large diesel motorhome so they can send the proper size truck. Also note, if you break down in a location where the police thing you are a hazard to the other motorist, they may call a wrecker for you and let you work it out with your roadside insurance company.
