Lots of good advise. On my coach it all depends on how steep the hill is. My transmision starts by down shifting to 5th but if the hill is to steep I use the brakes to slow it till it drops to 4th if it will still not hold speed I can slow till it drops to 3ed. I could probabbley go down a 25% hill in 3ed with out it speding up.

One more thing Cummins recmends not to let your engin slow below "peak torque" under load. You should down shift to reduse the load on your engin.
Anouther way to say it is when on a hill in cruise and it slowes down to where your engin rpm will fall below "peak torque" you should down shift to reduse the load on the engin.
One more thing I won't drive a diesel with out EGT and Boost gages.

The computer running the new engines is smarter than you. Let it do it's work and relax.

You're correct, I said I had an 2 stage exhaust brake. Meant to say engine brake.
