I had the same problem and indeed it was the pump.You can replace the rubber valve piece and it will probably be fine. I replaced the whole pump as I wanted something new.

I would likely do the same with my old old original style Shur-Flo. A newer one like this one though? I like the way they work, and would repair it if possible.
