National & Georgie Boy Motorhomes?

In my early research for a used motorhome I keep coming across these two brands. Apparently these are not being made anymore. Are they comparable to the Newmar, Tiffin, Winnabago, etc. brands?

We owned an '01 GBM Landau for 11 months and was happy to see the end of it. The Ford Chassis was satisfactory and handled much better than others I have driven. My issues were with the GBM product.

Check the irv2 National RV forum here: National RV Owner's Forum - iRV2 Forums.

Lots of very happy NRV owners out there, myself included.

We have a 2001 GBM Cruisemaster Model 3816 DP, 300 Cat w/Allison 6 speed. Have been very pleased the performance and and handling. Like the floor plan and pass thru basement storage. Most DPs on the Freightliner chassis are basically the same regardless of the brand. Some of the higher end coaches obviously are fancier inside and have more bells and whistles. I can't speak for gas model coaches or National RV's but I would definitely buy another Cruisemaster DP if the price and condition were comparable to what we have. That said, we plan to drive this one a very long time!

We have a 2006 Georgie Boy Cruise Master Luxura on a workhorse w24 chassis. The coach seems to have been well built. We are very happy with this coach. Good Luck

I'll second what Fred and Bonnie say about the National RV owners forum. We've got a 2005 Dolphin with the GM 8.1 engine and allison tranny and love it. It's very well built and in the 2 years we've had it, it's been very good to us. It's never broken down. Only problem was toilet flush valve developing a leak, that was fairly easily repaired.

We have a 2001 Georgie Boy Landau we have only owned since Sept. We have had no issues except the Onan generator required some work. The sofa bed and the dinette beds are on the small size. We love the floor plan and the coach seems well made.

Georgie Boy became part of Coachmen.

We have an 07 Georgie Boy Landau 33. It has been fine for a mid level coach.

Have to ditto on the Nationals. Very nice well made coaches. Had ours for 2 years and love it. If we upgrade again, it will be another National.

don't know what year your looking for but in 2000 I compared all the above rv's before purchasing a new coach & National was far & away the best rv for that year, 2nd Tiffin. GBM was the worst with cheap construction methods. Nationals were built with a screwed/ glued quality construction. mine is now going on 14 yrs old & nothing but nothing has ever fallen apart or broken off.

if you can find a National in good shape---i'd buy it.

if National were still in business, I'd buy another one.

Have not owned a National Rv.
My present Mh is my second Georgie Boy. Bought a used 1990 Cruise Master in 1992, enjoyed it for 9 years and then traded on a new 2000 GBM Landau, because of the layout, construction and durability of the 1st Georgie Boy. (Going to a Diesel pusher was also a factor)
With any used MH you want good maintenance records, and a good mechanical check. Tires, rubber roof, delamination, evidence of leaks can all be expensive concerns on ANY MH...
Even with manufacturers no longer in business, the appliances and fixtures are normally still available, Freightliner or Chevy/Ford chassis' and the various engines still have parts available.
GeorgieBoy owners manuals are available from Coachmen
Specs for 99-2000 Georgie Boy models are here: Georgie Boy Mfg., Inc.

decisions decisions.....enjoy

While looking 1 1/2 years ago it seemed for the price range on a gas coach the National had the better quality finishes than the GB we looked at. We are very happy with our Dolphin.

When did these two companies go under and why? Also will the steering and sway modifications that I keep reading about need to be done to these?
