------->Need advice on extended warranty

Hello fellow RVers' ... my husband and I just purchased a 2006 American Tradition 40Z. We really feel we need to purchase an extended service protection. We would appreciate any company recommendations. We appreciate your time and recommendations very much. Blessings to all!

Respectfully,
Bella & Michael

First you have to do a search on this forum. You need a service contract that is EXclusionary. It names the parts NOT covered. Everything else is covered. Pick a insurance company that has good financials. See Weiss Ratings. The other ratings outfits are....dreck.

See if you can find a company that is its own gatekeeper or administrator. You have a better chance of getting a claim approved.....rather than going thru someone who is paid to deny or delay your claim.

My rough guess for a good contract for you could be about $800/year, unless your 40Z is a diesel. These contracts can be negotiated downward. Be polite/firm as they are marked up probably 40% from the wholesaler.

Other members will now bombard you with their comments....

Thank you so much for responding, yes we do have a diesel 400 HP, would you mind if I ask which company do you use for your extended warranty (if you have one)?

Thank you for your time.

Check out RV Extended Warranty Coverage, RV Warranty Specialists - Wholesale Warranties for RV Repair

They are an iRV2 sponsor and are easy to deal with.

When we purchased our 40DP new in 2007, I bought a six year policy with Easy Care. We were very happy with them but I did not renew when it expired. I would be very surprised if you can find a good policy for less than $1K/year but best of luck.

MY advice is: don't buy one.
But if it makes you feel better that problems MIGHT be covered then that's what you need to do.
We're on our second diesel rig and getting financing through on a third. We bought a service policy on the first one because I was afraid of the higher costs of a DP repair. NEVER used it so it was a waste, on the second DP I never even considered it. On the upcoming one, well I don't know the history of it and just might get one. So far we haven't received the contract info on the ones the dealer sells. And they are going to do an oil analysis before we take deliver.

As for whether to get one or not, I am typically not a fan of them. In the long run one will typically come out ahead being self insured. However, in the case of a used RV purchase I think there can be a place. Buy a one year term to mitigate against latent and unknown issues. At the one year point, and having experience and history with the coach, make the decision whether to continue or not.

I, too, will be surprised if it is $1k/yr or less! Wholesale Warranty quoted me $10.8K for 4 years on a 2008 CC Affinity. Price depends on type, year, mileage.
Happy RVing!

Thank you for responding. Wholesale Warranties gave us a quote of $5,490 / 4 years for our 2006 American Tradition 40Z (diesel 400 HP).. does that sound about right?

That is a good point. I'll have to talk to my husband about this. Thank you for responding.

I'm a former car dealer and sold a lot of ext warranties because of the high investment and high risk.

I purchased my rig 6 yrs old and bought Cornerstone and it has been well worth it. We've had it for almost 3 yrs and still using the service. 2 slides are sagging and the fresh water tank is leaking.

If you are a mechanical person, take the risk.

I don't recall the exact numbers, but I think EZCare quoted me close to $10K for four years after my six year policy with them had expired. That's on a 2007 Itasca Ellipse 40DP w/400hp Cummins.

The price is probably pretty close to what you would get from any of the others. I personally wouldn't buy one, BUT if it makes you more at ease then it might be worth considering. Also, you can make that, or some kind of EW, part of the deal - that is if it is not too late.

All the best!
