Need Backup Monitor

I'm sorry if I have done this posting incorrectly. This is my first time attempting to post and first time as rv owner. I just purchased a 2000 national tropical and it does not have a backup monitor in it. Does anyone know where I can get one that matches the existing wiring or maybe the brand that came out in this mh so I can do a Google search? Any help would be appreciated.

This might help. It describes how I did a complete rear view system replacement for under $100.

If you don't have Adobe Reader let me know and I'll see if I have the file in Word format.

There are really only two kinds of wiring carrying the video signal, and the difference between them is the connectors at the ends. There are adaptors available so that you can use either type of connector with any cable you would encounter.

I recently used the company that Fred and Bonnie refer to and had a pleasant business experience.

So if you can't find the right monitor then try COSTCO. They have a unit by Rearview Safety that is just awesome. As far as install, it only takes about 3 hours if you are lucky. You may have to figure out exactly how you are going to install the monitor in or on the dash. remember it's your unit so personalize it.

Yep...Costco.

Took me about 2hrs to mount camera, run cable, and mount monitor.

Just a "do it" job. I bought the kit with 2 cameras so I can later mount 1 on the entry door side. Cheaper that way.

How did you run the cable from camera to monitor. My cable seems to be tied at certain points in the ceiling would be impossible to remove without tearing up the ceiling and I aint going there.

Why remove the old cable?

You might have to get some inexpensive cable adapters from Radio Shack but your old cable should work perfectly well.

MY cable connector to the back of the monitor appers to be defective. Sound keeps going on and off when I shake it back and forth. It does it in both the # 1 & #2 camera connector

Do you really need sound for a back up monitor?

Are you sure it runs thru the ceiling? Don't worry if it does. leave it and rout an all new system. As I stated, some RV's have a fiberglass cap on the rear sothere is a gap between it and the back of the motorhome. Take the new cable down and under the coach to the front. The COSTCO (Rear View Safety) system works great and you can even have up to 3 cameras.
