Need Info

We have a 1989 Rockwood Driftwood Motor Home that we took in for Maryland Inspection and they failed it because they said there should be a brake warning light that comes on when we turn the key on. Have no ideal where to start looking and the people we got it from said they have never seen the light come on. Anyone have any ideal where to start looking and how the light works. Do not come to Maryland to Buy a motor home they will pick it apart!!!!

What chassis is it? The brakes and dash warning/indicator lights are part of the chassis. The chassis manufacturer may be able to help.

Brake light

I also live in Maryland. What they are looking for is possibly the anti-lock brake warning light. Seeing as how your unit is a 1989, it either might not be equipped with that system, or the light is burned out in the dash. If it's the light, it's an easy fix. Just pull the dash panel and check all your light bulbs. If it's not equipped, there's always a State Trooper who is in charge of that inspection station that you can make a complaint to. I had to do that one time when a car I bought was turned down saying that my power steering belt was bad. The car didn't have power steering.

Take it to a different inspection station.

This kind of an old thread but my 89/90 has a brake light that comes on when you start cranking the engine. It goes off when it starts. My GM instrument cluster has a 4" speedometer on the left a 2" "brake light indicator in the middle and another 4" dial on the right which has the gas gauge, oil pressure gauge, temp gauge and voltage gauge. Hope this helps. This was all standard GM back then. My 1976 van was pretty similar to this setup.
