Neighbor Upset with our buying MH.....

I need a little advice. I live on a street with nice big home lots, I have 3/4 acre with my house closer to the road with a large back yard. Unfortunately the backyard is wetland (can't park there) so I asked one of my neighbors if he would mind if I put a parking pad on the side of my driveway, our land abutts. He said yes no problem and congratulated me on the new Motorhome purchase.

The other neighbor (lets call them Jack & Jill) just informed me that he's moving and his realtor says he'll lose at least $20K of home value just because my motorhome will be visible from the side of their house.

I am within my legal rights to park my motorhome on my property and I have written permission from one neighbor where I abutt.

Jack and Jill asked if I would be willing to park off-site at a commercial yard several miles away for the whole spring/summer/fall season. Remember, this is our NEW motorhome. We have never owned a motorhome before, we can't wait to use it every other weekend or more. I am not inclined to park off site. Jack and Jill said they would pay for us parking it off site.

Now I feel terrible that I might cause them to lose money on their house. Yet, we don't want our new very expensive motorhome sitting in some open yard with limited access.

He knew several months in advance we were going to buy one, I showed him where we were going to park it. He congratulated me and never said a word about moving. Now I get this email and I feel terrible.

I would love to hear your input, what do you think?

If your subdivision does not have covenants restricting the parking of RV's, you are within your rights to park it there. when they purchased their property, they chose to make the purchase knowing that there was the possibility of a neighbor doing just what you have done. You have done nothing wrong and should feel no guilt. It is your property to do as you want. Enjoy your RV on your property. By the way, their agent is a [Moderator Edit] disturber.

I think that's a pretty weak salesperson. If the salesperson couldn't justify the use of you having a brand new motorhome, then I am with the rest of the comments that they need a different realtor.

IMHO the realtor is scamming. It will be easier for him to sell the property if he can take off 20,000 of the top before even trying to sell it.

do you live where they have a hoa? if not as long as you aren't breaking any city building laws you can do what you want. i guess then you have to decide how liked you want to be where you live. how are the new neighbors gonna feel right after they purchase a new home and the you build your rv spot? always find it funny when people care more about money than anything else...

I agree with the other responses. The statement your neighbors would lose $20K on a future sale is nothing but one person's opinion and is not based on any facts. I personally would love buying a home with a neighbor who had an RV too. We would have lots of things in common right off the bat!

How does the realtor know Jack will lose money? What if a potential buyer is of a mindset like you and wants a motor home as well? I agree with the others, Jack and Jill need a "sales agent" not a realtor listing service. To many realtors only are interested in 'listing' and throw it up on MLS in hopes someone else can sell it. Our contract with our 'listing agent' runs out next month and we have already found a new 'sales agent' to list it with.

Some realestate agents are really good at what they do, and conscientious about each property and customer they serve. But then, some could be best classified into the same category as some used car salesman that I've known.
