NEW 2011 on Dealers Lot
I need input on what the depreciation is on a "new 2011" on a dealers lot.
I have heard that if bought new (present year model) there is 30% depreciation driving off lot, then 18% more for first year and another 10% for second year, from MSRP.
What I need is information for a 2 year "new/old" unit depreciation on a lot. Is there a formula that could be applied?
I presume the dealer has not followed any engine warranty, oil changes or other maintanance requirement in these 2 years. Any suggestions on this?
If a trade-in was used in this case, would 15-20% less than the average market value of this trade-in be fare?

It depends...
What is it?
Manufacturer still in business?
Warranty?
Why is it still there?

It's been my experience that there are so many price guides and formulas available that I never could tell which one was the most accurate to use. It seemed like no matter which one I used the dealer used something else. Then it dawned on me that the only entity that would be conservative and dispassionate about it would be the lender that I would use for financing if I needed it. So that's what I do, I call the lender I plan on using, maybe another one to double check the numbers, and I go with that. And if I am going to finance it I'm going to have to face their valuations anyway. It's worked well for me but as usual YMMV. Good luck with your decision.

radams gave good advice and I have found Credit unions to be the most helpful in this.

I have also been looking at a 2011 coach that is sitting on the dealers lot having never been sold. It is presently reduced by 40% and have been told by owner he will go lower. I really lowballed him and he told me I needed to be realistic. It is not 100% of what we want and we have a 6 year old coach we are "happy" with so we have not jumped.
I caution you about buying it only because it is a good or even great deal. Be sure you will be able to live wih it for a number of years without saying "I wish I had waited."
Now why haven't I yet bought the one I have seen. It's because it has a Maxforce 10 engine and wife is not sold on the floor plan. We don't want to just settle.
I posted for advice on the purchase in these forums and I think The title was" 2011 still on the lot. What's it worth?" Perhaps someone else can give you the link but I don't know how to post it. Got a lot of really good input. Good luck.
Sorry for the length

The pricing guides the bank uses is NADA. I'd use this one.
Go to NADA.com and look up the coach in question, load in the mileage with no accessories checked (artificially inflates the price), and now you have the value of the unit without a warranty if you were buying it used. Since it's new, it's condition should be near perfect.
Since it's technically new, you should add about 2-3% to the NADA value, since it will carry a full manufacturer's warranty (as long as it's not an orphan). This should be a fair price, and will factor in the depreciation when you 'drive it off the lot'. No formulas needed.
Negotiate full fluid and filter changes (oil, generator, transmission, etc) and you're good to go!
Yes, there is age on the tires, but the NADA value for that year will factor that in.

I bought a "new" 2010 last October that had sat on the dealer's lot for a bit over 900 days. I have no regrets as Fleetwood has stood up and taken care of the minor issues such as windshield wiper fluid hoses that got brittle and broke.
I got 42% off the MSRP, the savings was significant as the dealer took the depreciation hit.
I had them do a complete service of all fluids, generator service, new head light assemblies (clear coat was peeling off), new PC board in the Zone 2 furnace, new windshield wiper blades, chassis A/C was plumbed incorrectly at Fleetwood and/or Ford, and a few other items... It has only taken about 4-months so far to get it all done...it is in the shop again this week getting some warranty work done and a chord reel installed.
