New flooring impact on resale

Time for the old carpet to go and put down some new flooring.

Have a class A gas so marble, granite tile etc. is not a smart option because of weight.

Been looking at a lot of the units that have come out over the past few years and it seems no one is building them with wood floors. Even the high end coaches.

I'm planning on putting in engineered wood, but will that hurt resale value? Should I do the LVT instead?

Tom, I'm not sure about that. The wood looks nice, but not everyone likes it. I would think it would be harder to maintain also, but not sure.

We chose to go with the LVT. That gave us a wide choice of colors. It is very easy to maintain and I don't think it would add nearly as much weight.

I really don't believe it would affect the price one way or the other. JMHO

I don't think it will affect value just as long as it looks like a professional job.

This past spring when I was looking at used coaches, A lot of them had new wood flooring installed by the dealer. DW and I liked them.

Quality engineered wood, from a full service retail store, has many layers of aluminum oxide on the surface. This material makes clean up easy.
Any material, whatever you choose, will scratch at some point in time. Wood can be stained to cover the scratches. I have engineered maple in our coach and, yup, I scratched it.

IMHO if you are doing it for the sake of resale, don't. You will not get your money back.
If you do choose to go ahead, use good grade material and have it done by a qualified installer unless you have the skills yourself.
Doing a half-a$&@ed job will do more harm than if you had left it alone.

My 2 cents worth.

There are a number of dealers that brag about replacing carpet with wood or engineered wood laminate floors in every unit they sell. I don't think it will reduce value of the RV, but I also am not sure you'll get enough more to cover the expense. You might check into a professional carpet cleaning service and leave it at that for sale.

I agree.

When we bought our coach, the carpet was awful and the ceramic tile had cracks. We also found that in our part of the world the ceramic tile was really cold on the feet.

We replaced the ceramic tile and carpet with vinyl flooring six years ago. We put new carpet in the bedroom, and today we wish we had put vinyl flooring throughout.

Anyway. I'm not trying to make a statement about what kind of flooring to use. I think that's mostly an issue of personal preference. The point I'm trying to make is that because we did a very professional job with the installation, to this day, anybody visiting us comments on the beautiful floor!

New flooring impact on resale

We had sheet vinyl installed replacing carpet in the living, kitchen, hallway and bath. Leaving existing carpeting in the main slide and bedroom. Came out very nice. Looks original if you didn't know.

Paid about $300 in material and another $300.00 in labor.

Best thing we have done to the Motorhome.

The new coaches have tile to look pretty but they're heavy, cold & hard. We wanted wood but the slide wouldn't clear and settled on laminate planks. Carpet is the worst unless you don't have pets and remove shoes before entering.

You may not impact the overall price of your coach resale, however, it may show better than others on the market of similar year and quality. Just like S&B homes which people do a light make over and it sells quicker than others in the market.

agree totally. You'll not recoup your money invested in the flooring. However, your rig will sell faster than one without the makeover. Just my 2 cents.

We had ceramic tile put in ours by a profeessional tile man that new his stuff, he even went as far as to do the steps and risers. That was four years ago and it still looks great and none of the tiles has ever cracked. I must admitt though it does get cold in the winter but we have a hydro hot heating unit that warms it up pronto. To be honest with you I don't know for sure but I don't think it added that much weight over carpet and padding. We paid 1300.00 for the job and I tore out the carpet and pad. We have carpated slide and never a scratch.

Our carpet is still in good shape but has a few spots where the color has bleached out. How does having the carpet professionally recolored work out?
