I am looking at two gas models plus several used diesel pushers at the same dealer. They all have posted prices which is between $180,000 and $190,000.

Which one would I get a bigger discount on? I understand I should get at least 25% off of the new models.

Please do not let this get into a "gas vs diesel" discussion as I only want the $$ info.

Sometimes depends upon which unit has been on the lot longer as to which used model gets the bigger discount

Use the NADA guides on each of these RV's and shop them all individually on the internet. Some dealers price their used really high and discount deep (unless dealing with mis-informed buyer) and some dealers price tight and discount little (attracts more potential customers).

I don't suppose anyone here would know the cost difference between a new Ford F53 chassis and say a Freighliner XCR frame with the smallest diesel engine?? I am guessing the dif to be around $50K

First of all new vehicle discounts are not hard to figure out based on everybody's experience. As far as used you'll never know what the dealer has into it,depends on how much they gave the buyer when they took it in trade.If the buyer was aggressive then they will be into it for more than a non-aggressive byer. You need to be aggressive and work them until they just won't go anymore.

Regarding price, I would be thinking supply and demand? All else being equal, I would think there would be a higher demand for diesel when it comes to the larger coaches.

Second thought, if I were able to purchase a gasser for less money, would I really be getting the better "deal" when considering I'm going to be selling this coach some day.....

Check the asking prices on the internet sites such as RVT.com and RVOnline.com, etc. to see how they compare to the dealer asking prices for the used coaches. The coaches we are considering can vary as much as $100k in asking prices. I figure the low prices as close to what you can get it for--and they sell quick, the ones at the high end highly negotiable. Motorhome specialist in Alvarado generally have very good prices on their own coaches, their consignments not necessarily so.

I don't know what a diesel coach costs. I know you can buy a 24,000 lb fully loaded new 34' gas coach with 22.5 inch tires for about $110K if you shop. When I say fully loaded I mean W/D, heat pumps, electric awning, power management, electric heater in the wet bay in addition to furnace heat, charger that charges start battery when plugged into shore power, fiber glass roof, plus all the normal stuff the other MHs have. Their super discount price was listed at about $145K. Running out of time though, we're getting close to the end of the recession. JMHO when I bought my 2013 Monaco.

There is no target discount percentage for a used RV, because there is no fixed price (MSRP) to start from. The dealer can price it any way he likes, maybe jacking it up so he can then give you a nice sounding "discount". Or maybe he priced it to sell quickly, and actually put a relatively low price on it. You need to educate yourself about used RV values in your area, and that's not easy. The online NADA is only an estimate based on average depreciation and might be high or low. Yo need to shop comparable models.

As for getting 25% off MSRP on a new one, that'sa good target. However, some (many?) dealers won't deal that low, or may only do so in certain situations. Don't be afraid to make that your offer, though. You won't get it if you don't ask, and bargain hard.

...and some dealers will do higher than 25% on a new one.

Shop around.

Yeap. I've seen 30% reported. Make sure that's off the real MSRP, though. Some dealers print up their own sheet that has some extra high dollar stuff thrown in, like a $3000 "protection package" for the interior/exterior or a "dealer fee". That's mostly just extra profit so they can tout more discount or make more $$ from the unwary.

If you are purchasing a MH based on the biggest discount, leave your money in your pocket and find something else that you like to do better.

Which FLOOR PLAN of the MH you are considering do you like the best? Which layout and accessories will suit the way you plan to use the RV and will give you the most comfort and functionality?

That unit is the one I would try to get the best deal on.

Shouldn't make any difference what the discount is. It is not about the "deal" but rather getting a MH that you like and enjoy. Pick the MH that you would most like to have that is within the price range you can afford and then work with that.
In the long run you won't be happy with a great deal on a MH that doesn't fit you wants or needs.

At least with Newmar they publish a factory base price and an option list with the prices also listed that can be downloaded. The sheets are available on the Newmar forum on this website.
Pick your model, download the sheet, pick your options and start negotiating from there. When we ordered our present 2002 DSDP we got about 27% off
