New hardwood floor installation

Finished up this week with the installation of hardwood floors in my 03 Dutch Star. Learned a lot from the members on this forum on how to "get her done". So a big thanks to all who have posted on their own new floor projects.

I had to use trim along the bottom as the inside walls were a installed the over the carpet and padding, the new floor was not high enough to reach the walls. And, the DW says if I put shoe molding on one wall she wanted it along all the walls. Total cost for the materials, including new carpet and padding for the slide out, are right at $2,500. The glue was $165 for a 3 gallon bucket. But the floor company I got my materials from said it was the only glue his installers would use, it would clean up easily without etching the finish on the wood. I have over 100 hours of labor into the project. The old glued tiles in the kitchen, hall and bath took a lot of time using a heat gun and putty knife. Plus, I don't seem to work very fast anymore. I think the results were well worth the work.

Materials: Nuvelle American Collection 5"x 3/8" Red Oak, Golden Oat.

be proud, it really makes a night and day difference

its good to see more and more folks doing some updating jobs, the bland interiors, get stale after a bit.
we cant repaint the walls, but darn it we can do floors and appliances and even cabinets

Nice job!! That looks really nice. I am thinking about pulling up the carpet in the bedroom & doing the same thing. Has anyone installed electric heat tape or whatever it is called underneath flooring to heat the floor?

Never found anyone that has done that it my research, and it never crossed my mind. But, I try not to be anywhere that's cold.

Nice job Jeff. Little advise. I did the same with the KStar. I notice on my floors that the roller were beginning to Mar the finish. Especially where they sit when the slides are in travel mode. I had the DW go buy place mats. I taped half of one to a full mat. I lay them down in front of the rollers before I bring in the slides. It works slick and the rubber backing keeps them in place. Believe me, you won't miss that carpet one bit. Happy motorhoming.

I researched that also. The mats can be used with a floating floor installation.
The manufacturer I talked to said that the adhesive chemicals would react with the coating on the wires, in a glue down application.

Good suggestion. I bought something called polywall from Lowes its .060 thickness to protect the floor from the rollers, but I found that even with the the leading edge tapered sometimes the rollers will start to push it along the floor. So I have been looking for some type of rubber backing I could glue to the back of the poly to stop the sliding. I will have to look at place matt idea.

I'm starting next week to do the same thing in my 05 Kountry Star. Only thing that has me a bit concerned at this point is handling the kitchen slide. Do you just put the flooring as far back under the cabinets as possible when it's open and "call it good"?

Tom before you get started you need to build slide out jacks. Very simple. Built from 2x4s like a box. Measure the depth of your slide and make them about 4" shorter. They set in the top of the slide. I used old carpet on the side that is pushed up to the MH wall. When you bring in the slide it will raise the floor so that you can get under the slide. It will also let you inspect the rollers and change them out if needed. Any questions let me know. If your KSTAR is the same as mine I can send you pics and measurements.
