New Kwi step motor question

Just bought a new window lift motor from Napa for my Kwi triple steps.
Part #655-1395. When I tested out both old and new motor I noticed that the gears on the new motor did not turn the same way as the old motor when closing and openning the door using the override switch. So I did not install the new motor. Am I miising something? The new motor is a left front door lift for Tarus and some other cars. I'm afraid to put the new one on thinking the gears would be stripped. Did the polarity get changed?
Need advice.

A DC motor's direction of rotation is determined by polarity. Just reverse the wiring between the controller and the motor and you should be good. One question, If the old motor runs, why are you replacing it? Is the gear stripped?

Will try reversing the leads. The new motor ran fine except when opening the door the steps retrack and when closing the steps extend. I've heard of this problem before on the net but forgot solution.

The control unit will take care of the proper polarity. What you need to do is change the door switch from a white one (normal open) to a black one (normal closed), it's easy and it works.
I know by experience!

If you change the door switch without changing the controller to match, the light under the step will operate in reverse. If you are just replacing motor and the new is running backwards; just change polarity to motor. This will keep everything else correct.

I did the Taurus driver's window motor on my Kwikee step a few months ago and it is working fine. $50ish vs $120 is a nice savings, isn't it. Good luck.

Thanks for the solultions to my problem with the new motor. I'm currently on the road and will change the old motor with the new one as soon as I'm able to do so. As I had mention that the old one apprently is running Ok but you never know when it will act up again.
I'll keep you posted.
Thanks again. GO IRV2!
