Smile New Member says "Hello"

Hello, everyone. My wife and I are considering the purchase of a 2011-2014 Tiffin Allegro Breeze 32-footer, but are reading some interesting things about the Navistar Maxxforce Diesel engine that makes us question the choice of the Breeze.

We need advice on whether or not to consider the Breeze, and are in the stages of doing our due dilligence regarding the choice of the diesel engine. I have not driven a diesel, having had experience only with our 1998 25-foot Trek Pathmaker with 454 Chevy Vortec gas engine. We want to sell the Trek (a terrific little unit) because we have acquired a parcel of Sierra property where we plan some longer stays and want a MH that is larger.

All I know about the diesels is what I have read: that they are more costly to maintain, that they operate differently from MHs with gas engines. Why they have had some caustic comments, I have no idea, but I am wary at this time about looking at diesel units. Hopefully, some of you old-timers who have had experience with both gas and diesel engines will help me decide.

As for the diesels, I know that they seem to pass me like I am sitting still while I struggle on steep uphill grades....even when they are towing a toad. Diesel trucks towing fifth wheels or trailers also seem to rush past me, and I know that my 454 (with Banks) is operating as efficiently as possible.

Anyway, glad to be here and I'll be anxious to receive your advice once I learn to use this new site.

I have had gas and diesel motorhomes. Hands down I prefer the diesel. I do my own maintenance and see very little difference in cost. Gas I serviced 2 times per year, diesel once per year. Oil cost for the diesel is approx. $75 (6 gal) at Sams Shell Rotello diesel oil, filter is approx. $30, diesel filters are approx. $30, my coach uses one. I have a 300HP cummins on Freightliner chassis.
