New Project: 1972 Winnebago Brave

Hi all! I had been looking for a Brave/Indian for some time and finally found one about 250m away. It had, what we figure, were the original tires on it (chassis only has 39k, this is the 3rd owner), which were rotted bias ply on split-ring rims. I found a company in South Carolina (shoutout to Redneck Trailer Parts) which happened to have the ford-style coined rims (I had no idea what this was before this project), so I bought 7 and some new tires and headed up that way.

The motorhome is in relatively good shape for its age, save a nasty rotted out roof section over the loo and the drivers seat/fold-down bunk. There is a video of someone re-doing a roof (about 3 minutes, sped up), but he did it all from the inside because it was gutted already. This fact is important because it has a roof skin on it, of which I can only assume is some sort of poly-coated sheet metal. Looks/feels like plastic up top, but has some weird surface rust underneath.

What I assume to be the procedure here is to remove the retaining strip (I think maybe an awning went into this channel?) on both sides and peel the skin back, then replace the wood on the inside. Has anyone done this on a similar rig? I don't want to ruin the skin, but also don't want to gut the interior. I'll post up some pictures when I can, hoping to give a good part of my Saturday to the start of this.

Hi Sean. Congrats on the Brave; I'd love to see some pictures. You might get more responses on your project in the Vintage RVs section of the forum; there's plenty of remodeling threads there. Have a look... Vintage RV's - iRV2 Forums
