New Tires

Good Morning, I know this is a well discussed subject, but here it goes. I recently purchased a 2005 33' Winnebago Voyage only 30,000 miles on the coach. My first M/H. I noticed that all of the tries showed some dry rot. They were Michelins 2012 vintage looked like new other than the dry rot. The coach is in near new condition and had been kept covered so I not sure why all 6 tires would have some dry rot. Anyway I purchased new tires and after researching I decided to use Sumitomo ST918 Traction, tire size is 245/70R19.5. After I did more research last night I see that there are steer tires and traction tires. The ones that I had put on are all traction tires. Will this have a impact on the how the coach drives. Do I need to have steer tires on the front? Thanks in advance.

You can't use traction tires on the front (steer) axle. It is illegal and dangerous! They don't have the sidewall flex needed for steering. I'm shocked any tire shop would install traction tires on the front - somebody messed up badly if they did that!

Did you buy them off the Internet? A tire shop should know better.

I purchased they at Big O, I asked the sales person if it was OK to run traction tires all around and he said that it was, but after some research I thought that he might be mistaken. Thanks for the imput.

With cupping issues on the front axle I would have thought that you'd have asked for highway tires for all locations ... .and set a fixed interval to have them rotated for maximum life and tire mileage... I can't imagine a Big-O store would lead down the path of being a very unhappy customer....
