New to Fulltiming-Check Transmission Light On

Hello
My husband and I are new to full time rving. We started our trip from Ontario and when we got to Missouri, our check transmission light came on. We looked through the forums to find out what may be wrong. There are no diagnostic errors on the Allison Transmission shifter key pad and when the Alison Authorized dealer tested it they indicated it was not a problem with the transmission. We have changed out the alternator to ensure the engine batteries are being charged and there is not a low voltage issue. The light continues to be on and so does the beeping. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi, a little more info on your coach would really be helpful.

We recently had a similar situation, but did have an error code stored. Additionally, the Tech found an error code on the Cummins engine. 2 software updates were required to get things squared away. Essentially, the engine and transmission were having problems communicating, resulting in the SEM (shift energy management) system being disabled. The transmission was shifting smoothly and there was nothing to indicate that there was a problem. If not for the LBCU warning, I would never have known about it. Now, perhaps if I had continued down the road a few hundred miles that may have been different.

Perhaps the problem is engine software related.

Hope they figure it out and you are back on the road, with confidence, soon. -Paul

Have you checked the fluid level via the key pad?

There is usually a single wire that attaches to the chassis battery directly that provides power for the transmission ECM. You may check to make sure it is making a good connection and no corrosion.

You may also check the wiring connections on the shift pad and ECM, unplugging and plugging back in.

We checked the oil sensor on the keypad and it comes up okay. Had into the Allison Authorized dealer and they indicated no errors. They unplugged the ECM and plugged back in still nothing. Where is the cable to the chasis batteries? Thanks

Thumbs up New to Fulltiming-Check Transmission Light On

Just wanted to thank everyone for their input and let you know that we are back on the road again. So it turned out that the Check Trans and Alt Chge lights in the dash were backwards. These were changed. They also looked over the alternator installation and found out that the regulator wires were not attached which caused the Alt Chge light to illuminate. We are all fixed and on our way.

Thanks for the update. Good to know it was fairly simple and that you're back on the road.

Hats off to the one that figured it out. Hard to not believe what your eyes perceive as right.I have grabbed electrical line drawings that were wrong ,not updated ,wires tagged wrong and or not wired as per drawing as well as made my own mistakes that are are hard to spot as your doing them . It sucks that there were two mistakes made . If not for last one you would have caught the first. You would not of known. You wouldn't want to have a tranny problem and see alt. light and be like .... voltage gauge says it is all good, I'll just keep driving. Blessing in disguise possibly .

Thumbs up

153stars,
That is exactly how we looked at it. Had the installation of the alternator gone right, we would never have known that the switches were backwards and that the wires on the new alternator were on the exhaust manifold which could have burnt down our house. It is definitely a blessing and we are grateful that God is watching over us!
This trip has been exactly like that!
