New trip idea!
As a youngster we had a Nike missile site near our house. It was decommissioned but was always "off limits" to us curios boys. So on several occasions we had to check it out. I was searching today and found a refurbished missile site that not only can you tour, but can spend the night in the crew quarters! Looks like in August we will have a new trip to plan!! It is located near Tuscon, Arizona and I am super excited! Hope to see you there!

You're crazy if you visit Tucson in August, especially in a poorly insulated RV.

Ok we might have to make it later in the year. We have trips scheduled starting in February and August was our next opening. Might have to do later in the year.

A Nike missile site? I thought they only made shoes and clothes.

Tucson is higher elevation than Phoenix. Accu weather predicts the temp at 100 during the day and mid 70's at nite. Plus if you run AC from Gen or Shore you should be fine. You may want to look into a FHU site at the Fair Grounds RV park on the east side, just off the Interstate near Vail, AZ.

Nike. Like from the 50s I think. We have one just north of Denton, Texas.

Been researching the Nike sites lately. I found out that the one near us was one of only a few that were retrofitted. They had Nike Hercules misseles that were equipped with a nuclear warhead! A sports park now resides on top of where it once resided.

According to Wikipedia there are no Nike sites in Arizona.
I have been to the Titan Missile Museum in Tucson and have a coffee cup to prove it. All underground and really neat.

I don't think the OP ever said there was a Nike missile site in AZ. Only that there was one near his boyhood home. He never said what kind of missile site he wanted to visit in AZ.

Went SCUBA diving in a flooded missile site in eastern WA a few years ago. Fun trip for the crazy.
