New twist on Michelin sidewall cracking

Just had all 6 XZA-3's replaced under Michelin's warranty program. What I found interesting is the instructions to the tire supplier in regards to the old XZA's and that is, they were to be returned and marked "RV7743457 Mich RV Adj Claim Attn China". Interesting that the word China is part of the RMA code. Could it be that Michelin experimented with making the XZA 22.5's in China? My new tires if I had to guess were made in their Spartanburg SC plant being as they came into the dealer on Sat 23 Apr. and had a date code of 1416, indicating they were made sometime between 4 and 8 Apr.

I'd wondered if the sidewall problem could be narrowed to the country of manufacture. Because my 8 and 10 year old Michelins have no sidewall cracks.
Fronts the 8 year olds are from Spain and the country stamp on the rears the 10 year olds is between the duals so I can't tell.

Currently shopping for replacements. So will make sure " China " doesn't appear on any tire I buy.

Wonder if there is a way to look at the tire and see a code of where they were made?

Country of origin will be stamped into the tire sidewall; BUT ; like the date code may only be on one side.

Our '02 DSDP came with Spanish made Michelins. After 8+ years they had some very minor cracking around the lettering so I went ahead and replaced them.

Tires are Critical

Folks,

Tires are critical to your safety as well as others on the road.

Please replace them in a timely manner.

Many can discuss when a tire should be replaced.

During your annual chassis maintenance, have the tires inspected by your repair facility.

My routine is to replace steers every 5 years and the rears about 7-8 years.

This is not an area to compromise.
