After reading several of the posts, I get the feeling that this could go either way. It sounds like you are pretty set of buying it and putting it back into shape. You might be right that with some (maybe a lot) work and $5-10,000 you can have a usable motorhome. Notice I said usable and not great. On a project like this, you can't tell how much work and $$$$$$ it will take to get it to something you and your wife would enjoy traveling/living in until you are committed to it. Then, it might be too late to turn back. After much thought, my gut feeling is to walk away and find a different project. If you are still set on doing it, will losing a few thousand $$$$$ on it affect your lifestyle? If it will, think long and hard on it. If it won't matter, then at the very least, it would be a learning experience. Good Luck

Just left the guys house from shore powering it. All the lights, microwave, radio, etc works. I asked him about maybe trying to turn the engine over but not starting it and he said that he doesn’t want to do that because he was afraid of messing something up with the broken spark plug. I managed to look under the RV and noticed rust/rot from where the shower is positioned. I asked him about the brakes, asked him if he put brakes on it since he’s had it, he told me that he hasn’t. That was 5 years ago when he bought it. The floors are pretty solid, the walls looks/feels solid as well. Oh... minus the bedroom closet. The wall looks wavy. I do know from all the leaks, it’s because of the roof. The cabinets in the kitchen, and bathroom are shot. Maybe the upholstery in the shower and where the commode is maybe be shot as well. I don’t know if a good cleaning will work. The more I read you guys input and after looking at it for the 8th time I think I’m going to walk away and find another rig.

Oh... I forgot to mention, a guy up the road has a 1997 Gulfstream Tourmaster 40 foot 8404 400hp with a Cummings 86,000 miles 2 slides 6 speed allison transmission for $30,000. Is that a reasonable price?

It could be the bargain of the year or a money pit. Get the inspection checklist from the forum "sticky" and do your inspection. To replace one air conditioner would be $2,000. Tires, at least $2,500. And so on. Also, a few photos of interior and exterior would help us help you.

ID:	185268 I’ll have to get inside pictures tomorrow. I sat up an appointment for tomorrow afternoon. He said that it had a leak by the bathroom and the floor is soft there.

With the stress cracks and an admitted leak with a soft floor, it has two strikes against it already. Add to that the expense of an older diesel pusher, and you better get your checkbook out.

That’s what I figured. [emoji22] I guess I’ll keep searching for the perfect RV that fits my budget and pleases us. Thank you for your input.

With patience, you will find that perfect coach for your needs. There are motorhomes out there that won't need much work and have been well cared for. Find one from the southwest where there is little rain, low humidity no salty roads.
