Newbie wonders "What to add?"

We pick up our first coach in two weeks, just getting it ready now.
Our past two years we had a tag along.

I have this HUGE list it seems, of stuff to add. Am I right? $$$$?
Surge protector - built in?
Rv air pump
Rv ladder
Tpms?
I have a current Garmin GPS. We're heading west this summer, long trip. do I reall need an RV GPS?
Anything else I missed?

Definitely get the TPMS, I had new tires installed prior to our trip to AK and the TPMS caught 2 leaks in a matter of weeks. The coach doesn't move until the TPMS is on and tires check out OK.

Surge protector, I only added mine after a lightening strike took out the EMS circuit board. Last trip we took I caught a polarity problem and low voltage. Definitely a good investment.

The RV Garmin 760 does provide you with routing based on size/weight/length of your rig. Don't know how old your current GPS is but the new features are far superior to my older Garmins.

One tool that I have and use on a trip is a infrared thermo gun, I bought a cheap one at Harbor Freight. I check wheel hub temps on the coach and toad to look for problems with bearings and brakes. Check tire temps also but newer TPMS has that capability.

For safety I'd buy an extra fire extinguisher. I also have an automatic fire extinguisher mounted behind the refrigerator, I still have the original Norcold, it's had the recalls but still have to be cautious.

Definitely get the surge protector, and whatever else you can afford to make life more comfortable.

Check to see how your coach is equipped for handling. Do you have good anti-sway bars and track bars? Based on your driving experience with your coach would a Safe-T-Steer or similar device make for a more comfortable drive? (if a F-53 chassis chedck out the threads on CHF)

On the low cost scale, if your coach does not have automatic levelers, pick up a electronic leveling aid. Much better than trying to read the bubbles!

Robot Check

What is the age of your coach? If a used model, check the date code on your tires and replace at that magic 7 year point regardless of mileage.

Definitely get the RV GPS. It will keep you out of trouble. We got ours, then traveled with both it and a standard car GPS running at the same time, and it does route you in a different manner especially if you are pulling a toad. It will keep you off difficult roads...but be prepared that it will usually chose interstates over US highways etc.

Be sure to weigh your coach...the manufacturers tend to not allow much room in the GAWR for your personal belongings. Try to get weight for each wheel vice just each axle...you may be surprised by the results. Very necessary for proper tire inflation as I am sure you know.

Don't forget the wheel/tire covers to prevent UV deterioration.

TPMS and surge guard for sure. My surge guard is the portable one. I keep it locked in my compartment and use a extension cord to the power source.

Add a digital multi-meter for testing voltage AC & DC, conductance of wires & cables, good or bad fuses, ETC. I have had a $65.00 unit, but more times I use one that Harbor Freight sells for $6.00 or free with another purchase. I have 12 because I teach a class on electrical systems for RVs. On the high voltage scale, they only vary 0.01 volts. I don't need any meter more accurate than that.
