|
No hot water on city hook up
I have hot water when using the water pump but not on the city hook up. we are in a Fl. Rv park for past 3 days, so not a freeze up. All valves are set to normal positions. please help.

I have a by-pass valve on my coach that has to be turned to allow city water to run properly thru the system. Perhaps you have a similar piece of plumbing hardware.

Need a lot more information then what has been provided. Specifically what happens at the faucets under both conditions.
Is there ANY water flowing out of the hot side of the faucet?

no hot water
I had hot water but only when using the 12 volt pump. When hooked to city water inlet, cold water only on all facets. I called a local rv mobile service for advice. He had never heard of it before and could not explain it. He would arrive in about 4-6 hrs. In the meantime. I drained water heater and all holding tanks. Basically starting from scratch with winterizing prep. I then hooked an air compressor up at 40psi to the city fill spicket . Opened all faucets until nothing but air. Filled water tank, lit water heater, hooked hose to city fill and wallah.. hot water. Not sure what the problem was, but sipping Crown Royal now and happy happy.

RV Gremlins. They run rampant at various times to make our lives miserable.
HOWEVER, I vowed that they would not get the BEST of me.
Glad that it got resolved.

Check your outside shower valves, if the hot is open, even if no water is flowing, you won't get hot water. This is only when hooked to city water.

Could have been a simple air lock that got removed when you drained and refilled?

Pete"s Dad just hit it on the head. "If the outside shower faucet is on, even with no water flowing, you get no hot water inside on city hookup"
I did discover that indeed the outdoor shower valves were open but the shower head was closed. I have now marked "open and closed" position on them. The mystery is solved and I hope others pass this one on. Thanks iRV2 members for the help.

Glad you found out the cause. But the question remains: Why would the outside shower faucet being on cause the problem?

Any faucet being on can do that, the shower heads just have their own shut off so you can have an open faucet with no water flow.
However, being on city water does not matter because the pump is supplying the same system the same way, so that is not it.
