I ran a coax from a basement compartment for my Winegard Carryout today. When I opened the passengers windshield pillar I found there was no sealant between it and the engine compartment. This left a 3 inch diameter opening for outside air and noise to enter the coach

. Tomorrow I am going to open the driver side and check it. I plan to seal both pillar openings with expanding foam.

Hey Hipshot . We have the same MH as you know. Can you explain to me what a windshield pillar is? Maybe a photo.

It's probably called something else. It's the structure between the windshield and the driver's and passenger's side windows. If you remove the plastic moulding that goes from the dash to the ceiling you will find wires in there that run from the corners of the front end up into the ceiling. I found there is about a 3 inch opening and is not sealed. Air, dirt, sound and possibley water could get into the coach. I will try to post a picture tomorrow.

Possibly they left that open for you to run your coax through without making another hole.

I have found something very similar on 2 MH's we have had. IMO it is shoddy workmanship. These opening for sure allow and dust to seep in. I did as you said you were, I sealed them. On my current MH it was a little harder to find the unsealed areas but after advise from some folks on here, I found and sealed. In mine the unsealed areas were allowing outside air in the cockpit area and in the winter it was very cold.

This photo on the left shows the edge of the windshield on the left and the passengers side window on the right. The vertical structure in between is what I call the windshield pillar, probably not it's true name.
The photo on the right shows the opening I am talking about. You can see black foam where they attempted to seal the opening but missed an opening about as big as a tennis ball. The opening they missed comes out above the headlight assembly inside the front end. I haven't had a chance to open the drivers side yet.

We can always find something that needs repair/improvement on our rigs.

It is called a pillar. On a car it would be called the "A" pillar. The pillar at the back of the front door is the "B" pillar and the one between the rear door and the rear window is the (you guessed it) "C" pillar.
