No Start.

I put the coach up about mid July. All in good working order. Went to start today and it will not fire at all. Appears to be turning fast enough to build compression. No fuel? Tank is full. Any ideas?

It could be a number of things. Bad fuel, blocked fuel filter(s) blown fuse on fuel pump, shut off solenoid not working. The only way to tell is to get hands dirty. I'd start by loosening fitting in fuel line, crank and see if fuel flows from the loose fitting. Proceed from there.

Hi rssnape,

You may have lost the "prime" in your pressurized fuel system. If you have a manual, you might want to see if it discusses a procedure to re-prime the system.

I tried the priming pump at the filter. I could barely push it in. So either the pressure is high or the pump has not been used in so long it doesn't want to pump.

Fuel solenoid or "decompression" solenoid? Any idea where to locate that?

Where can I find the fuse on the fuel pump? Are we talking a lift pump? I don't have much experience with this engine and although I have the owners manuals they don't give much detailed information.

Any good resources on line?

Sounds like no fuel or no voltage to the ECM.
If you have access to the rear of the engine you will find a fuel return line
attached to the fuel regulator, if you take that line off and crank the engine
if it is getting fuel you will see fuel coming out the regulator if not pump the
prime plump until you do.
Be ready to shut the engine off if it starts while checking, once fuel is present put
the return line back on and tighten.
While at the back of the engine on the left rear you will see the ECM on the side
of the block check for a single wire with a inline fuse and check it, some have the
wire going to the battery and the fuse will be near the battery, wire is normally red
in color.
The above info is general and could be a little different between units.

Thanks for the replies. I checked, poked and prodded all I could but without a better diagram, etc. I couldn't find the things I needed to check so I have called a mobile mechanic to come out tomorrow. Considering the age of the coach and the sudden failure to start, I'm betting its a relay or solenoid.

Final diagnosis was Low oil! After 6 hrs of time at Cat they can't find any cause for low oil. I'm guessing that I wasn't reading the dipstick correctly on my inbound trip and saw oil on the stick but that it wasn't completely covering it from side to side. A super expensive lesson on how to read a dip stick! 😢

Thank you for the update, for sure an expensive lesson in checking the oil level, but think of the cost of a seized engine!

I do have to question why it took them six hours to find it was a low engine oil condition, were they Cat Techs?

Well the tech that came out to my warehouse was not too sharp and diagnosed it as a dead ECU. After having it towed to the cat dealer, they pulled it into the bay and jumped the battery and it fired! Their computer said low HUEI pressure.
They called me and asked. I had checked the oil 300 miles earlier, so where had 2 gallons of oil gone? They spent a majority of the time trying to figure that out. Injectors can fail so that oil goes into the return fuel line. They checked a fuel sample and other things.
My conclusion was that I misread the dip stick. What is interesting is that oil runs down to the pan during storage periods and it was sitting on a level floor in my shop.
?????
I feel dumb cause I had my dad help me add 2 qts at the last oil check. Maybe I had already run the engine? Anyway our conclusion is that I misread it. We will see!
