No title yet!!!

We bought our MH two weeks ago in North Carolina; drove it home and still have not received the title from the seller's bank. This is so frustrating because we cannot get a license plate without it and therefore are stuck sitting in it in the driveway. We have a beautiful weekend coming up and would just love to take it somewhere, anywhere, even if we just drove it down the road!!! The seller let us keep his license plate long enough to drive it home and then we mailed it back immediately. Why does it take so long. All the funds were wired directly to the bank so it is not like they are waiting on a check to clear. Any people out there with banking experience that can explain why this takes so long!!!

I probably wouldn't have left without the title. I realize that doesn't help you, sorry.

This was one of the reasons I decided to by from a dealer. I just did my purchase a week ago and brought it back to Canada.

I went to BOA with my seller to pay off his loan. It took about a month for the bank to send the title to him and then he sent it to me. We agreed for me to kept his tag until mine was issued.

Do you have a bill of sale that you could use with a pending registration tag?

Most states are electronic title states. Meaning there is not an actual paper title until the loan is satisfied. The holdup is usually the state DMV who has to be notified of the lien release then print the actual title, then snail mail it.......Its the government, and they're here to help

I would call the tag office and see if it is not legal to install a tag applied for sign on the tag bracket and show your bill of sale as proof of ownership.

Here in South Carolina you have up to 45 days to transfer tags. You should have been able to keep his tags until the title arrived since you were unable to obtain temporary tags from North Carolina. I would call the bank to find out why there is a delay since they have your money. Or maybe your local DMV will give you a temporary tag until your title arrives.

I am not in Carolina but in my state you can drive during the process by using the bill of sale as the registeration showing that things are proceeding. On one of my past sales the bank had actually lost the title and had no record of ever having it. It took several weeks of back and forth dealings to get it resolved and I was actually out of state putting the RV to good use during the process. I don't know if this is good advice, but that is how we handled it!

There is little anyone here can do for you. Call the bank and get to the person responsible (not the clerk the supervisor) for these transfers then ask questions and follow the trail making sure each step in the process has been followed; go where it leads with calls After determining if the bank has done it's part correctly then do the same with DMV.

Persistence and reason are your best friends now, shake them up a little and get some answers.

We bought an rv in Wilmington NC, and left without the title. The coach had been consigned to a dealer, with a power of attorney, but the money owed to the bank by the original owner was a larger amount than we paid for the coach. The dealer gave us a 45 day registration/temp NC plate, and the owner paid the bank and got a release from the bank. The bank posted the release to the old address in South Dakota, and it got lost. The bank had to send another, but they were slow about it. Then the old owner and dealer had to take the release to the DMV in NC and get a title, which then had to be sent to us in our home state. The whole process took over 60 days, and involved many anxious phone calls, etc. The dealer did nothing wrong, but by the time the title finally came, I was ready to call the attorney general of NC. In retrospect, I would never again transfer the money unless I rec'd clear title at the same time, it just isn't worth it no matter how good the price is.

Here in Texas, with a bill of sale and insurance certificate, you can get a temporary tag (usually 30 days) until you have the title.

Hope this helps for ideas.

I am sorry for what you are experiencing. If I were you I think I would call my home state DMV, explain the situation, and ask for help. You might catch someone on a good day. Then I would call the sellers DMV, and do the same thing. One of the questions I would ask is, what time frame does the bank have to release the title. Once I had all the info on how things should work, I would call the bank.

Be pleasant on the phone and ask for their help. It just might get you the results you want.

The process takes time. And it is not necessarily the bank that is holding up the title. We traded our rig which was already paid for a MH at a dealers also with no loan, so no bank was involved. It still took 6 weeks to get a title. Unfortunately there is no way to speed up the process.

I deal with the titles and licenses for our company's trucks and equip. here in Colorado. Have you contacted your local DMV for a temp? Most states allow for a temporary or transit tag, for 10 to 60 days. It won't hurt to ask.
