No volume with back-up camera

04 Dutch Star 4025
We have a new to us DSDP and have little or no sound from back-up camera. I can hear some road noise when traveling, but nothing when sitting still. Checked camera but could no find any pick up device. Any help appreciated.

The pickup microphone is probably built into the rear camera. There should be a volume control in the monitor. Be aware that for backing guidance with a DP, the rear microphone is pretty much useless due to engine noise. We use a pair of personal walkie talkies when we are being guided in to a spot.

The microphone on my camera is a very tiny pinhole next to the lens, similiar to reset holes on a lot of electronics. It is a favorite spot for spiders to spin. They can plug it well enough to block all sound pickup.
Part of my departure checklist is to gently ream the channel out with a thin bristle "Between The Gums" brush.

Like LT. Dan said, you can't hear anything over the engine anyway.

I had the opposite problem. Earlier this year we bought our new to us 2002 Endeavor. I didn’t realize the backup camera had a microphone. After a few months I was very disappointed by the fact my DP was so loud. I even looked for missing insulation that would explain how I was getting so much engine noise all the way up front. THEN I discovered the volume knob. How embarrassing [emoji15]. Now my coach is oh so much quieter. Easiest fix ever [emoji23]

I turned the volume to minimum for that reason. The only reason I can think of to have the volume up on a DP is to hear a siren approaching from behind.

I leave mine on for a few seconds just to make sure I don't hear my toad wheels dragging. Hasn't happened to me, yet, but I have seen it and heard it on one when it was too late to prevent damage.
